Pre-ordered a while ago and just received my beta code from Amazon. Having just been playing fallout 4 recently (which is fantastic!) I'm really looking forward to something with less faffing about.

So, any thoughts?

It's not for me, I didn't feel like the guns had any heft, kick or feel to them. Movement felt slidey and lightweight. Move like a game from the 90's wearing modern clothes.
It also seems to have been CODified with perks and loadouts and levels not the pure level playing field of getting to that rocket launcher/shotgun first.

I got bored in about 15 minutes.

This is my issue with most FPS games nowadays. In a decent game you fire a sniper rifle (in something like Counter Strike 1.6, source or Global Offensive) and you KNOW you have fired a sniper rifle. The boom resonates round the entire level and the sound is still ringing in your ears.

Head to some modern game like Destiny and it feels like you are firing a sewing machine that fires out ping pong balls... Total crap.

Shame this doesn't seem as important anymore..

Downloading on psn for ps4 today. Hoping it's going to be good. Many memories of LAN parties and designing our own levels.

Feels very like destiny or halo. Very superficial and lacking in any doom atmosphere at all.

Is the full game just multiplayer or is there a traditional single player doom campaign in there somewhere?

Same here, genuinely looking forward to having a go. DOOM on the Pc was one of my favourite games in the 90s

This is called doom but it's nothing like classic doom.

Yup this is 'Quake'y. Not impressed. Where's the single player? Where's the synthetic guitar music and double barrelled shotgun? Monsters? Nah. This fails.

This Beta is multi-player only. The single player is in the game release.

I quite like it. Not sure about the longevity it'll have - 2 or 3 maps on a 2 mode multiplayer isn't giving much away in that regard, but it's fun, quick and fluid. makes a refreshing change from the other franchises I've become bored rigid with.

Played it once and then uninstalled it. Bland gfx and boring game play. Shame, the single player vids floating around looked great.

Im rather enjoying this, granted Doom was never a mass arena shooter, that was quake. But this is quite good fun - cant wait to see if the single player lives up to what i expect from Doom !!!

Agreed. Couldn't find any reason to get attached to it, even though I really wanted to. Just a smooth running high speed yawn fest.

No weapon I fired actually felt like I was firing it whatsoever.

They've made an arena shooter that is too slow, because if they made if properly fast how it should be it would be unplayable on console.

They've also stripped down the skill ceiling, no rocket jumping, no strafe jumping, barely any air control.

They've introduced demon mode where you become a massively OP demon that can kill everything way too easily.

They've gave it "load outs". WTF. Also you can't pick up weapons in the game and it has XP to unlock stuff.

Great. Doom has become CoD with gore.

A game that exactly no one wanted.

I know it is Quake but I think this seems to be the way of modern shooters. What was wrong with a good old slogging.

Played it and uninstalled it shortly after.
Terrible game, awful graphics.
Ruining the memory of Doom, which in it's day was ground-breaking.

I have been looking forward to this for ages, and after playing the open beta I am very disappointed.

As has already been said, WTF are load outs doing in the game? The sounds are woeful, with absolutely no satisfaction from firing the weapons. The game play is just not Doom as there are not weapon pickups. The control felt odd and I found the level design uninspired.

The only saving grace is that I've read that the single player element (the part was most excited about) was developed by a separate team, so hopefully that will be great...
