After all the pre release hype, I thought I'd give this a miss, but clearly I need to get involved! I played the original Doom and Doom 2 constantly at University and also loved Doom 3 (although it scared the crap out of me).
I'm out the country right now with very limited internet access so where would be the cheapest place to pick is up on PC for when I get home? Is it worth getting it through Steam?

I have:
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 8GB KIT)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4770 (3.4GHz) 8MB Cache
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 660
INTEL® 520 SERIES SSD (upto 550MB/sR | 520MB/sW)
Win 10.
Do I have any hope of running this at an acceptable frame rate?
It would be okay, but you may need to turn a few things down a notch.16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 8GB KIT)

Graphics card is the main bottle neck, with 2GB onboard ram, thats starting to creak with todays requirements
Indeed.
I finished the first hell level last night. And had 10 min of 'decompression' reading the codex, it's a really clever an well designed game world and a little at odds at the chaos and uber violence. I like that. The Jimquisition video on Youtube this week was about this.
If you are thinking of buying this and love action shooters and a bit of exploration, you really should get this.

An i3 and decent GPU will have DOOM rocking along nicely. A GTX 960 should see you at 60FPS at 1080P Ultra.
Treat yourself
Im stuck on the windows license, im a pretty staunch linux fan, and the idea of having to befoul my rig with windows makes me uneasy...Treat yourself
fingers crossed for a linux port
I'm really enjoying this in my limited time available to play it.
I look forward to getting infinite mini-rockets. They would certainly have made life easier for me last night at the end of the Foundry level. I died twice before telling myself to play properly and run around and up and down all over the room, instead of following my instincts from more recent shooters and trying to take out the enemies from a high place, dominating the stairs leading up - it didn't work. Once I began using the whole room, things improved. I even survived trying to chainsaw a Hell Knight with only 1 on the fuel gauge, as I strafed back at speed and hit him with several rockets. I haven't felt that excited playing an FPS for a very long time.
I love the way they've made the chainsaw a tactical weapon, instead of just a novelty or a stronger than fist melee weapon.

Am playing on 'hurt me plenty' and was stuck on the final battle in the kadingir sanctum hell level for 3 days worth of trying. It finally all came together last night with all the massive monsters appearing at just the right time before the quad damage wore off. Proper sense of achievement.
Excellent, excellent game!
