id seem to be pretty good at porting to Linux.

What distro are you using?

I'm playing with an old laptop with Ubuntu.

I'd still try and get my hands on WIN7 and play it like it's meant to be played.

Id was good about supporting linux, up to the point where bethesda took over, nothing since Quake 4 a decade ago... Although Feral Interactive (a studio doing mac/linux ports) has dropped a cryptic picture of Mars on their "coming soon" games page, so one can hope...

I use Xubuntu myself, i started out trying to run KSP on a 2gb machine, so i figured something with a lightweight DE was a good idea, and i really like XFCE. the *buntu base makes for easy support etc..

When I look at Linux it's like looking at a document in German or French. I can recognise some, but the structure and workings are somewhat of a mystery smile

Its great for keeping a 10 year old laptop viable after the HDD had a total existence failure.

Can we stay on topic and continue to discuss a really fking cool badass video game rather than being derailed by incredibly dull Linux bores?

Theory that all the Doom games, including 3 and 64, are a connected storyline.

I love how Kotaku act like they just discovered that. Everyone has been saying that Doomguy in the new game is the badass that was left in hell after 64, and then rediscovered and unearthed. Its pretty obvious that's what happened. What makes this storyline great is that is actually you that is the "Doom". You are the one thing in the universe that the Demons of hell fear. And now you're back to kick ass.

Currently in the Foundry. Keep getting killed by one of those massive b-stards!
Chainsaw! If empty, keep your distance and use rockets.
Yes, rockets are the thing for those tinkers.

Or the double-barreled shotgun.
Unless I missed something (eminently possible), you don't get the double-barrel until later than the Foundry.

Oh. Was that it then ?

I've finished it now (okay, I had to engage God Mode as I'm an old gimmer), but I was expecting more.

Am I the only one enjoying multiplayer? The customisation is addictive! Snapmap is a cool addition too, great fun creating your own level and filling it with demons to make it as easy or difficult as you like. Filled a corridor with as many possessed as I could cram in earlier, then warmed the chaingun up aaaand...relax biggrin

Only just got this, enjoying it very much.

I love the old-school strafe out of the way of incoming fire things etc, which you don't get in bullet based games.

Shouldn't be too long, the single player story isn't particularly long, but it does have replay value so I imagine some will play through and get bored again pretty quickly. Wouldn't be surprised if there are second hand ones on Amazon already.

I've just clocked 1000/1000 gamerscore yesterday. I've really enjoyed it. I'll trade it in next week.

I am trying to Cross The Bridge at the moment, i've got to the bit where there is a gap in the bridge probably about 20 times now but no matter what I try I can jump to the other side. I fall down the gap, and get killed. Every time.

Frustrating the hell out of me.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with that. Usually in FPS games the perspective tricks you into jumping too soon. Try looking down as you move forwards so you can get close to the edge

I got stuck there too. You can go further down the broken bit before you jump than you think. Do the second jump after a decent pause to get the distance.

Drove me nuts but got there in the end. I had to check a Youtube vid to make sure I hadn't missed something.
