Not sure if anyone on here was a UT99 / Unreal Tournament fan, but if you aren't aware then there is a new UT being made, it's currently in "pre-alpha" but, it's absolutely excellent, runs smooth, no crashes in many hours of gameplay and the graphics are brilliant (some maps aren't yet skinned so they are a bit bare and marked as WIP (work in progress).

Game is totally free if you want to check it out, feel free to add me if you want a 1v1 or after a game - "Graaz0r" is my username.

Post what you think of it below!

PS. If you played original UT, I would still recommend running through the tutorials - there are a few changes you wouldn't obviously spot.

A few of us were low ping bds with a 100 meg link running out of a datacentre. We were night shift but with no night time customers, so we became very good at this and Half-life! How I used to love the hiding place behind a picture on top of some stairs in one of the maps and relentlessly snipe headshots. I suppose these days we call it camping wink

Loved the original, spent hours on it- both playing and building maps with UnrealEd. A couple of us still play UT2004 fairly regularly. The Ballistic Weapons Mod completely transforms it, and there are more maps available now than any one person could ever hope to download, not to mention a Halo total conversion...

Most of our UT experience though (both then & now) was/is the Instagib game mode, with quad jump & low grav mutators. Brutally fast paced gameplay and does wonders for your mouse aiming skill! biggrin

Really looking forward to this- the first video I saw of it they were playing Instagib on a re-worked (but partially textured) 'Deck-16/17'- its like they tailored the video specifically for me! hehewoohoo

Much love for UT, excellent work PHers!

I also made many maps for UT, was excellent fun, there are quite a few custom maps already, including some re-makes of some classic user-made maps such as w00tabalus (spelling?)

To anyone who has installed it, why not post your username below so we can add each other?

Also, you might have noticed the new "Hubs" as well as servers, really cool idea - basically you can join a Hub and then setup your own server on the hub, public/private with any settings you want. Saves having to faff with port forwarding! smile

Nice and easy to setup a 1v1 or any other game you may want that way!

Happy fraggin'!

Instagib is alive and well on the new UT by the way ;-)

Also, IRC is up and running, globalgamers (not quakenet ;-))

One of my all time favourites. Shame they ruined the franchise with the later games.

Nearly always a few games with people on, seen a few server crashes but not many in the ~150 or so games I've played.

If you find your client crashes in CTF, then go to settings and turn off the CTF mini-map, known bug which annoyed me for a while until I found the fix.

With the Hub system you can always start a game, people do tend to join

Agree UT2k3/2k4 and UT3 weren't that good... this new one though, it's got UT99 written all over it, give it a blast if you haven't already smile
