As i understand it, the PS4.5 is a PS4 with sufficient humpy to run 4k resolution displays and possibly VR stuff. It's also supposed to be fully backwards compatible. So I don't think it'll change the release cycle of the CoD games or render all previous gen games redundant in the same way a whole new console would.
True, but it does mean a newer console has been released after a couple of years.
There are rumours that Xbox are doing the same.

The PS4 will have been out 4 years buy the time the 4.5 is released not a couple. I still think consoles are on far too long a development cycle. The typical 5-7 year console cycle is an absolute age in technology terms. I think they should be refreshed every 3-4 years.

Three years if released at Christmas this year.

Oh yes, my bad you are correct. In that case 3 years sounds about right to me. I wonder if this will be the start of a new trend? A major console release every 6 years but with a mid-life facelift\refresh every 3 years. That would work for me.

The only problem is will developers bother to write for the more powerful machine if the uptake is not great for PS4.5? Alternatively I guess they'll need to build in a PC like ability for it to detect the hardware and adjust the graphical settings accordingly. Should be relatively easy to do as it will still only be two hardware specs rather than the millions of combinations you can get on a PC.

I fired up the original tonight (on 360) and had a good few matches online. Was quickly reminded how much grenade spam is in this compared to more recent CoD's laugh

There was also a lot of low level players online so I assume the news of the remaster has piqued peoples interests!

My understanding is that Microsoft are planning a modular, upgradable hardwear system for the current xboxone to be announced at E3.

That sounds like a bit of a recipe for disaster and will introduce some issues. Will developers support the extra hardware? Console's are also pretty solid in terms of compatibility\hardware as there is in effect only one configuration which everyone has to program for. Once you start introducing modular upgrades then you have the potential to introduce hardware\driver issues in which case, why wouldn't someone go the whole hog and just get a PC?

Developers wouldn't be able to create a PC game with the myriad combinations of hardware configuration that are available in mind. That's probably hundreds of thousands of variations at any given time if you consider CPU, GPU, RAM, MoBo, storage, sound cards, peripherals, Drivers, other software on the machine etc... They'll create a game that is supported by a specific OS, with a minimum and recommended hardware spec in mind. Test it on a few different hardware configurations and market it. If you then decide to throw hardware at it, you'll get a fancy looking and faster playing game. It's factors like the game engine used for the development that will allow the 'scaling' to more powerful hardware configurations. But that's a separate development in itself, outside the game development lifecycle.
I totally agree on the why not by a PC then argument though. They'll always be a better CPU, GPU or MoBo available, making it an endless money pit.

Looking forward to this. Just hoping it will be available on its own.

Nope, loving battlefield 1 at the moment and forgot this was coming out.

Yeah until this is a standalone and under 30 quid I'll stick to BF1.

Yep, looking forward to it. I got a few hours play in on Tuesday night before they switched the servers off. I'm mainly interested to see what all the fuss what about. I didn't play MW online the first time round, the first CoD i played online was MW2 and even when MW2 was the current CoD, people were already saying they missed MW.

It's odd going back to see how different things were. I knew there were only 3 streaks, but i didn't know that the helicopter was the only one you could shoot down. Nor did i know that the Perk 1 slot had things like x2 RPGs or x2 C4.

Shipment was a surprise too; talk about carnage! Makes Nuketown look slow and strategic.....

Sniping was much easier as people aren't flying around all over the place. Juggernaut seemed a bit OP as i was sniping people through the upper body with a bolt action rifle and they weren't going down. Although given how easy sniping was (I'm no sniper; if i can manage it, anyone can), perhaps it's for the best.

So yeah, looking forward to having another go at the weekend smile

My feelings exactly, have zero interest in the new one but would love MW. They aren't stupid though, I bet half the people buying the new one are doing it just to get MW. If they sold it as standalone, it would probably outsell the new one which might be a bit embarrassing.

Yep they choppers where only a problem when people first started spamming them. After a couple of weeks, as soon as a chopper appeared you'd see about 4-5 rockets shooting towards them. The killstreaks are a lot less OP then in later CoD's.

Was watching a stream of this earlier. Exact same game with ever so slightly improved graphics (at least on Xbox).

I adored the original game but really don't think I'll bother with this.
