I must be an anomaly. This Battlefield is the best one I've played (in fairness I only properly played BF3, a little bit of 1943, 2142, Hardline beta and BF4 I played 2 rounds before selling it... what a load of ste that was).

When I die it is usually my mistake. If they sort out the spawning I'll be very happy with it.
You're not an anomaly, there are just a few very vocal PH Battlefield players with extremely high expectations! wink

Bizarrely they still seem to play the game more than anyone else, whilst raging about it the whole time! confusedlaugh

I really like the game. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than the other FPS games out there.

I played three maps of the Middle East Operations multiplayer, a good 45 mins of gaming etc.. but apparently at the end of the whole thing I had only 6 kills and 3 deaths accordingly to the overall board. This isnt the first occasion K's and D's arent measured properly.. anyone shed any light on it?

Did you get kicked and rejoin the game? Switch teams?

Obviously something must have reset your in-game score.

First ever session over 2 or 3 rounds didn't register at all. seems to be a common bug.

I hadn't played Battlefield 1 since before the Giant's Shadow map was released but gave it a go on Friday night. That's a really enjoyable map but the fog lets it down slightly. The fact it lightens from night to early morning as the battle rages on is a touch I really liked, but the fog makes the night portion of the battle slightly more bothersome.

Meanwhile, I thought Amiens was one of the more average maps in the game! Ballroom Blitz, Fao Fortress, the aforementioned Giant's Shadow and Argonne Forest are some of the maps that I most look forward to playing. Fao Fortress can go either way but when it's going your way it is outrageously good fun. Plus, with a fair bit of luck you can use the field guns at the castle to counter-snipe folks at D. Nothing quite like blowing someone on the other side of the map to kingdom come. biggrin

For anyone else who tends to play Support as their main: what weapon do you recommend? I've been using the BAR Storm variant for quite a while now and I don't relish reloading after every kill or two, but I can't find a machine gun that feels better. I have a similar number of kills with the Lewis Suppressive but can't get on with the scope anymore. Do any of you run the Madsen or the Benet-Mercie, or is the MG15 the only other reasonable choice?

Bar storm
Lewis Gun low weight - but you'll probably need an extra ten meters between you and the target to ensure the kill.

Amiens is a great map IMO. Ballroom Blitz is decent too - both these maps get action on every target. Fao Fortress is highly concentrated across B-C-D but I still like it. St Quentin Scar is probably my favourite and Argonne forest is marmite - I love it as it feels like playing old COD but a lot of people I know hate it. Can't agree with Giants Shadow - crap map IMO. That and Sinai desert are probably the worst.

All of this is based on conquest - I find all the maps pretty enjoyable on Rush tbh.

I don't particularly favour any class over another as I tend to change to adapt. For Support I utilise all 3 available slots depending on the situation.

Slot 1
MG15 low weight w/ AA sight (so much better with this sight) and a repair tool/limpet charge for taking out vehicles. Bipod this thing and it's superb as a defensive set up

Slot 2
BAR Storm w/ AA sight, ammo crate and frag crossbow - the attacking/aggressive set up - this thing is just a look and kill monster. Yes you reload a lot, but careful use of cover and switching to side arm means it's rarely an issue - plus switching it to single shot mode makes it quite effective at range as well. Hip fire is ridiculous on it too so if you are arming a telegraph pole it's easy to shoot any defenders without having to grow extra fingers! I hear the trench version is even better?

Slot 3
MG15 low weight w/ AA sight and a Air Mortar and ammo crate - sit back and defend set up. Again bipod-ing is essential.

I did run the Benet Mercie Telescopic for awhile and really liked it - but I am enjoying the lack of reloading on the MG15 at the moment.

For reference the Benet Mercie I was 0.7 kpm and 22.7% accurate after 304 kills
MG15 low weight is 1kpm but only 19.8% accurate (only recently put the AA sight on to be fair) after 224 kills
BAR Storm I am 1.1kpm and 22.6% accurate after 252 kills

Compared to my go to Medic weapon which is a Mondragon Storm which is 0.9kpm and 32.8% accurate after 296 kills

Assault I am that dick with the shotgun I'm afraid
10-A Factory, 1kpm, 100% accurate 650 kills

Scout I don't play with any zoom scopes. So it was Gewehr Carbine with 1kpm, 42.5% accurate for 503 kills and now I'm again that dick running Martini Henry haha. 0.9kpm, 43.8% accurate and 472 kills

Yep, Sinai Desert is by far my least favourite map in this game. When it comes up I just sigh and resign myself to playing it. Sometimes I'll think it's not that bad and have fun with it, but for the most part I think of the incredibly rough beta release. Amiens I find quite hard to excel on because there are so many windows and accessible buildings, but apart from flags C and D it's not so bad.

Fao Fortress can be so hit-and-miss with how it plays out, and it all hinges on how your team rolls out. I definitely prefer spawning on the Ottoman side as I feel like A is a much harder home flag to capture, and the castle can be used to rain hell down on B (did I mention I like field guns?)

I've only played Giant's Shadow once and I'm looking forward to revisiting it a few times to get a better overall impression. I wasn't too fussed when it was foggy but as the fog lifted and night gave way to day, it really did feel like a true, large-scale battle. The two flags in the Zeppelin can be a mess and I am slightly skeptical of the balancing given that we finished 1000-500 or so. I'm now hoping my first impression holds up and it's not just a crap map!

I'll agree with the philosophy of adapting your play-style. I've lost more than my fair share of matches thanks to teams who will not stop playing Scout and blow up a few tanks. Assuming I'm starting into a match and haven't yet got a feel for what role isn't being played, I go Medic or Support. I'll have to give the MG15 another go with the AA sight; I remember using it on the Lewis Gun until the standard iron sight started to make sense.

I must admit, I'm not as prone to using the Repair Tool in this game as I have been in older Battlefield games on account of the tankers being able to repair themselves. As a result I tend to run the Ammo Pack, Gas Grenade and Limpet Charge on my Support class. I don't like to give up the Limpet because you can open doors and wreck buildings with it; if I disable a tank I'll follow it with a Gas Grenade. Either they get out of the tank to put their mask on, or they die inside it trying to repair.

When it comes to Medic it definitely feels like the Mondragon Storm is a top-tier choice, but I tend to run the Selbstlader or M1907 SL Sweeper. The Selbstlader performs admirably in longer range engagements, and I like both weapons on account of their being magazine fed, unlike the Mondragon variants. Sometimes the situation just calls for more bullets.

Like you I don't play Scout with a scope on the rare occasions I'll foray into the class. It's Gewehr 95 Infantry all the way. The straight-pull bolt on that thing makes it ridiculous, and I've found it surprisingly potent for defending bunkers. Lie down with a view of the door where you're not too exposed, pull the trigger twice if someone even tries to get in.

And I must give the shotgun a go, though I've been loving the Automatico M1918. The only other weapon to hold a candle to it at close range are the shotguns, and even then you stand a chance.

I've been mostly playing support with the Benet-Mercie Telescopic however I think I'm going to try a few more of the suggestions above.

One thing I'm really struggling with far more than Bf4 is hitting the target with a sniper rifle. I set the distance to suit, but even with a completely static target it's literally 1/10 that hits. Tried aiming just above the person etc and still no luck. I'm on fibre Bband and the game has no noticeable lag at all.

Any tips on what to try?

I'll see if I can record it tonight although I'll need to work out how to upload!

played around 75hrs now, honestly had maybe 20 times where I've witnessed a WTF moment, I've had loads of "how the flip did he kill me first" moments but you never know if he saw me first or whatever. I imagine most of the issues everyone is posting about is PC related so must be hardware related rather than game itself related.

I'm max rank on all classes apart from support, never want to put the effort in, just seem to get bored drilling 40 bullets into a guy 50m away when i can switch to medic/scout and kill with 1-4 bullets....

Having levelled up Assault, Support and Scout to lvl 10, i've just the medic class to go along with weekly medals.

edit: Forgot, i've got pilot and tanker class to do as well.

So far the Hellriegal is the best lvl 10 weapon out of the 3 i've unlocked, its so stable compared to the MP18. The BAR and MG15 are much better weaponas than the Huot Automatic (support). Had no expereince with the 'one tap' Martini (was nerffed before i got it) and prefer the Russian 1895 or the Gewehr 98.

MG15 is a devastating weapon i found. Especially on War Pidgeons due to close proximity maps.

I guessing that the ability to do class specific tasks is what helps you level up, not just murdering the opposition. So dropping that medic bag/Ammo crate everywhere, especially in doorways so everyone gains.

I've heard, rank will be unlocked come the new DLC but will it hold my interest? I have an itch to go back and play BF4 Metro with my new found BF1 multiplayer skills (didnt play BF4 multiplayer till BF1 came out, so i'm still a noob there).

Is it just me that us useless with iron sights? Pretty much the only gun I use is a support class LMG with the AA sights on it. I just can't seem to aim properly with iron or buckhorn sights :-(

I actually prefer the iron sighted weapons to the sighted ones. Can't stand the buckhorn though.

I find there are specific guns that I am quite good with the iron sights, and others where I am useless.

Especially things like the bolt action rifles, sometimes I can get headshot after headshot, others I'm left with a "wtf, how did that miss.". Part of it will be down to the server connectivity I suspect, as you are not hitting where you think you are hitting.

Is that the French Flag??

Does this mean that when you play the French the forward button makes you run backwards??
