Discussion
Wasn't it recently we were discussing the morality of smoke-grenading your own team for not playing the objective? Turns out Im all for it.

A round and a half gone, not moved from that spot. Only around a dozen kills in that time. It really cheered me up and we went on to win, happy days!

I'm after finishing playing for the night and encountered what must have been one of the best pilots I've ever seen in a Battlefield game. The guy finished 51-0 on St. Quentin Scar. Admittedly our team wasn't able to do much to challenge him in the air but it was remarkable to see someone so adept with the planes first-hand.
Get this, right: he was using the Fighter and absolutely tearing us to shreds on the ground below. Most pilots I've seen deviate towards the other planes but he was tearing us apart with a Sopwith Camel. I was secretly hoping he might score a death at the end of the match when the game seizes control of all vehicles.

The fighter is near enough untouchable with a half decent pilot. I'm regularly 90+ kills on Monte Grappa, usually with the only deaths caused by the lag I showed in the previous videos.
Even the stationary AA is rendered just about useless - you can kill the person manning it fairly easily (though it doesn't destroy the AA itself so you might find yourself attacking them a lot). I usually have a round as support with limpet mines, take out the AA I can reach and then hop into the fighter. The constant flares make taking objectives easier for your team and you can pick out the snipers camping on the fringes of the map with ease. Its only krpytonite is the artillery truck in AA config - you just don't do enough damage to armour to even contest it. In the air, the only thing that can touch you is another fighter, or an attack aircraft sneaking up on you and getting the first shot in.

Yeah, but for a quarter-decent pilot...
I do like the fighter though - the anti personel bombs are very effective and you have the speed to get out of trouble.

Patch notes:
Ribbons
There are 20 different ribbons you can collect — each one granting 300XP. All the ribbons will be active at all times, giving players more ways to get extra experience and good feedback when playing well. You'll have to complete criteria required to complete them, but there's no limit to how many you can get and how many times you can earn them.
You'll never have to select them before playing to earn them, they can be earned by just playing.
Elite Codex
The developers are also increasing experience gain through the Elite Codex. Eight primary weapons will have one, but you'll have to kill 500 enemies to unlock it. You'll receive the Elite Codex as well as 25,000XP as a bonus. You'll also unlock the "elite" version of that weapon.
Each Elite Codex will also provide plenty of historical background on the chosen weapons.
Here are the weapons you can unlock Elite Codices with:
M1897 Trench Gun
Automatico M1918
Selbstlader M1916
M1907 SL
Gewehr M.95
Madsen MG
SMLE MKIII
Benet Mercie
There are two for each class at the moment. Many more will come in the new updates.
Map Votes and Private Server Security
At the end of each game, the next map can be voted on — there won't be a random rotation of maps anymore.
What's more, private servers (RSP) will have security upgrades as well as the ability to kick players off your server. Anyone, even developers, who joins the server can be kicked through the menu.
Increased Max Rank
Every class is getting a max rank increase to 50 — a massive jump from 10. You can unlock these icons as you rank up that will show up on your kill card.
In addition, more dogtags are being added based for each class. From rank 0-10 you'll get the base color dog tags, rank 10-24 is bronze, 25-49 is silver, and only at rank 50 will you get the gold dog tags.
As with any update, there will be many tweaks and improvements to weapons, vehicles, and the UI.

I wonder if current kills count towards the elite? As I already have 6 service stars with the M95...
Silly that the SL is there, everyone using the sweeper for a bit then
Nope, 'a further 500 kills'...Silly that the SL is there, everyone using the sweeper for a bit then
Private servers are all well and good, but still nothing like bf3. They really did get it right the first time and have only fked it up since. Still no competitive matches, still no ability to have a ranked (and therefore played) server with a custom rotation across multiple map sets, or indeed any variation on game length. Why would anyone bother?
I've had a few amazing games in the last couple of weeks. I rarely achieve a positive k/d (but am mostly in the top third scorers), over the weekend jumped on for a quick game with Hank and ended up smashing through everyone.
I'd love to say it's merely gamer skill progression, but I think I need to be realistic when the inevitable return to normality kicks in!
