Looks impressive but again I'm not sure I really get this physical activity lark. Yes it might make it more interactive etc but if I want to do physical activity, I go to the gym where doing weird movements and working up a sweat is the norm.

I play video games to chill, not sure bobbing up and down and flailing around at home will be my bag. Might be amusing for a couple of hours for the newness but I tend to play games in stints of about 2 hours, I reckon I'd be knackered after 30 mins, not least of which due to holding my arms up in the shooting position for so long (try it, not actually as easy as you think) sit back down on the couch and not get up again.

I get exactly what you mean and I am with you when applying that to things like the Wii and X-Box Kinect, but having 5.1 headphones and totally immersive VR headset on is a totally different experience.

You don't even think about how you might look to anyone else and such is the level of immersion in things like "Brookhaven" you really don't have time to think about 'waving your arms about'. Your not, your aiming a torch and pointing a gun (or in my friends case pistol whipping a Zombie in the face as she had forgot to reload laugh ). You can take the headset off and be surprised which way you are facing, amazed at how high your adrenaline is, and totally knackered as you say... but that is the point of VR, to put you into the game completely in a way you have not played before.

Amazingly my arms didn't feel tired as I felt like I was pointing a gun and shooting it, strange feeling, but I didn't feel like I was just holding my arms up for no reason, I had a purpose in doing so (I needed to survive god dammit laughlaugh ). And strangely that 'purpose' seemed to cancel out the arm fatigue.

There are more relaxed and calm puzzle experiences in VR (the sandbox art environment is seriously impressive) but the full experience is something so new to gaming. Give it a go if you can, you don't think about how tired you get until it's over. The adrenaline will keep you wide awake once your 'in there' smile

Looking forward to the PS4 VR, that is a sitting experience so things like Drive Club and Star Wars "X-Wing Missions" will probably be the only things I play for a while biggrinbiggrin

I totally get the immersive aspect, in fact I can pretty much guarantee it will blow me away. I just think after a long hard day at work, do I come home, put on the VR headset so I still get 90% of the immersion, sit on the couch and wiggle my thumbs a bit OR do I go full on commando, doing combat rolls across my living room.

Not sure about anyone else but after a full on day at work then some time with my very active 3 year old daughter, by the time I've sat down for a gaming session, I'm already knackered and the huge appeal of gaming is that apart from my thumbs and a bit of hand eye co-ordination, I can pretty much switch off the rest of my body. I've even developed the neat trick of answering the OH on autopilot (yes, hmm, uh-huh etc) so no need to fully engage brain either. biggrin

So basically you need a PS4 and a PS4 VR then wink

Sit on the couch and use a Controller, and still be in the VR world wink 8)

(and 'X-Wing Missions' looks like it could well be amazing! and it will be a free to play update to Star Wars Battlefront )

Yep the PS VR will very likely be my first foray into VR ownership. I'll then wait for version 2\3 of the more serious VR kit. Still don't think I'd make use of the room move aspects apart from novelty factor and showing off to mates.

I envisage VR eventually developing into a Matrix like scenario where you are strapped into a chair and move around using your mind. Apart from augmented reality lazer tag type scenarios, I could be mistaken but I just can't see the majority of gamers, who are a lazy bunch on the whole, spending their evenings going prone and crawling along the living room floor to line up that perfect sniper shot.

Wait till you have a go - its addictive!

There is only as much physical strain as you want to put in really. The controllers don't weigh anything so its easy and if you don't want to go prone or drop onto your knees then you don't have too. The big difference is you don't really shoot that much at the moment. Its 80% running (or walking in my case) or hiding etc and 20% shooting. More realistic for sure in current game mode. I hope they bring out respawning though for a quicker paced game, and improve the maps as I think they need to think about the angles more as most of them are really open. Thinking Operation Locker type map from BF4.

How does movement actually work in this?
Most games are either teleport movement or limited movement and teleport in the play space.

I just spent and hour playing Just Dance with my 5yo (not in VR) and it nearly killed me. I quite enjoy the physical aspect of some games but I'd not want to do it all the time. It gets hot in that headset and my games room isn't well ventilated and has 2 pc's a projector, AV amp, a fridge and my central heating boiler running.

Its linked to your left hand angle plus key pad taps but I cant figure it out for the life of me. I just spent 30 minutes trying to sprint and did not manage to do it once. Started to get motion sickness again so gave up for tonight.

As for heat - yes it gets warm. I run a fan at one end of the room to keep me cool (plus windows open) and this also allows me to know which way I am facing in the room (quite critical as the roof is lower at one end!!)

So it seems a lot of people having the sprinting issue.
A possible fix is to recalibrate the room. I will try that tonight.

It isn't for everyone and, it may well be that it isn't for you. But, I would honestly reserve judgement until you try it first, it is amazing! I am currently addicted to Space Pirate Trainer which is basically a VR version of space invaders. Each game is only as energetic and physical as I want it to be but, I find myself wanting to move more as it will ultimately lead to a higher score. The physical effort doesn't feel like a chore when you're avoiding lasers which would mean certain death!! hehe

It can get rather warm in the headset though!

Turned super sampling off and now I am sprinting around like a banshee!
Also had 4 or 5 kills. Very happy with that! Able to move around just fine now, also don't seem to have as much motion sickness so I suspect that was down to frame rate.

Will still recalibrate the room at some point though.

Also had my first minor injury in VR! I was hiding in a crater and put my hands out to steady myself on the slope and fell flat on my face as of course it was only there in VR!

That deserves a rofl

Not that I haven't done similar things myself! hehe

Just saw this on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/517710/
I'm very tempted, I was a huge fan of wipeout!! No cockpit view yet but, it is being worked on apparently!

Fallen over a couple more times now smile

An hour is my max on Onward. After that its time to cool down and have a break for 10-15 min.

Some really good co-op game play, if you get a few people on who know what they are doing its great fun. Gone are the days of COD running round firing 300 shots per round!

I borrowed a friend's Rift yesterday. Took a bit of time to set up and I only used a couple of free apps or games that are already on my Steam account as want to keep options open on the platform I use and ideally use Steam (Vive).

I was a touch "meh" yesterday as I couldn't find much that was mind-blowing from a gaming perspective but this morning I'd finally worked out how to get my Elite account onto Steam and I gave that a 10 minute whirl and it all suddenly clicked.

Going to give Assetto Corsa a go this evening as well but even in those 10 minutes I really want to revive my Elite game as it makes such a difference!

Been mucking around with a few freebies and experiences.

NvidiaVR Funhouse - A few fun little experiences, well done and slick presentation. Might be worth pulling out to demo to people.
VR multigames - A mixed bag, the bow/fighting and goalkeeper games were fun but need polish the rest I'd not bother with.
The Enlightened League of Bone Builders and the Osseous Enigma - It's a jigsaw puzzle, presentation is nice but not worth the bother.
The VR Museum of Fine Art - A museum experience. Well done but quite dull, probably quite useful for educational purposes.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant VR - More of a virtual movie than a game. Not bad but pretty shallow.
Rexodus: A VR Story Experience - Meh experience, nice artwork.
Skeet: VR Target Shooting - Rubbish.
Abe - Another movie experience, disturbing.
Realities - Educational experience, ok for what it was.

Finally, Gnomes & Goblins - This is amazing! just a short little experience but quite interactive, intuitive and cute. Great art style believable locations/creatures. Loved it looking forward to more.

I am really enjoying Onward. Motion sickness has gone now, can do a couple of hours after that I get too hot and have to take a break.
Controllers are only lasting about 4 hours game play also which seems a bit odd but there you go.

Had some really good matches at the weekend. Still trying to get 4 kills in one round, can do 3 now and then but still not done the full hit.

I thought Nvidia funhouse was very slick and a good showcase for the graphics but, not very challenging. I have been using it as an intro to VR for guests.
I tried Quanero which was quite an interesting concept. It is basically a VR whodunnit where you control time in order to investigate and find out what happened. Shows good potential of a unique way of storytelling for the VR medium.

Will have to seek out Gnomes & Goblin, sounds very interesting.

Most of my VR time has been Project Cars so far and, still quite addicted to Space Pirate Trainer (although my scores are rubbish compared to the overall leaderboards!)

Agreed, not very challenging but quite good fun and the boxing one is exhausting!

I'm enjoying SPT now I figured out how to get the shield. Good to see them still developing it.
That detective one sounds interesting.

I just don't get on with PCars but they have now enabled iracing for vive so will give that a go.

Is it Project Cars or Project Cars on Vive you don't get on with? I've been playing it on my Vive and think it's great. (Only time trials though, my 970 doesn't like other cars on track).

Please let us know what iRcaing on Vive is like when you've tried it. Thinking about giving ita go but haven't found much in the way of reviews yet.
