I plan on picking up Assetto Corsa too as I believe that can run on the Vive using the ReVive injector, as can Dirt Rally.

I've held off on picking up Elite Dangerous as I'm a bit apprehensive about how such complex controls would work in VR. I had a go at setting up voice attack but, the Vive mic seems just terrible. Need to see if I can solve that as, with voice commands, Elite would be amazingly immersive.

I played Pierhead arcade at a friend's house which was pretty entertaining with lots of variety but, not sure if it is worth the £8 they're asking for it.

Is it Project Cars or Project Cars on Vive you don't get on with?
Project cars, don't like the floaty handling and poor FFB, I've tried everything and just can't get it to work for me. Also the animations are delayed, I change gear and mr driver eventually reaches over and grabs for a change. A few other bots as well but those are the main ones.
I used to race iracing with a DK2 and that was one of the best VR implementations I had come across.

You should try iRacing again then - it's great in the Vive since the last build smile

My vive is now 100% a table tennis simulation tool.. it's ace! ha ha

Have you tried Jack Spade's tweaker files?

Makes a huge difference to the FFB.

Can't say I ever noticed the animation delay.

Personally I've found it easier to use in VR than without. Just looking at the menus and using hat-switches to move is hugely intuitive. It's made it a more compelling game by far and is also the feature game that's made me decide to get a Vive

Yes, better but still rubbish.

If you ever have doubts about whether HTV Vive was the better choice, regardless of hardware, you're probably right:

Oculus 1.8 to integrate with Facebook and show real names:

For me, this was a massive factor in my choice of the two.

mmm.

I don't want my gaming friends to know my real name or my real friends to get updates on my gaming.
I've noticed an increase in websites that want to sign in via facebook. I never do, if you can't offer me an alternative I won't bother.

hehe

"Bullet has just played VR lap dancing with a score of 400, Shazney complained about is wandering virtual hands, can you beat his score?"

It's complete rubbish but a logical link with FB, how much did they pay for OR?

Everything tries to link with FB, if they don't offer an alternative they don't get my business.

I have to say that I'm quite excited about the prospect of VR on consoles. I dont have the time or money to put into proper PC gaming. I had a quick go on a flight simulator with an Occulus Rift head set a couple of years ago and the sensation of being in a real cockpit was incredible. I cant wait to play Project Cars or something similar in VR.

With that in mind I'm sorely tempted to get a PS4 Pro and VR but there doesn't seem to be any racing sims out at the moment that will support it. By the time Project Cars 2 or GT Sport come out, the Xbox Project Scorpio system may well be imminent and who knows, it may be better than the PS Pro!

If thats the case then it will be another year before I get my hands on a console VR setup which makes me sad!

I think it may be a while before consoles can offer proper VR xp. Perhaps next gen?
Most consoles aim for 30/60fps @1080 IIRC.
VR needs around 90fps, per display.

The other processing that goes on in the background can be quite intensive also.

Basically if your PC can run a single 4K monitor at high settings then you are just about at the baseline for VR.

As soon as resolutions start to climb, which I have no doubt they will in the next 3-4 years, the processing power required will be at least twice what we have today on something like a Titan X.

Isn't that where the PS4 Pro and the Xbox Project Scorpio come in?

I think they're more geared towards making the best use of current gen VR

I don't know what specs Sony have on their VR headset.
It looks like the PS Pro will just about sneak 60FPS at 4K on some games which might translate to an ok experience with VR.
Hard to say though.

That's not native though is it. They are up-scaling to get to 4k, the gpu will actually generate 1080 at whatever frame rate.

I think the PS4 VR headset is 1080, the resolution of the DK2.

PlayStation VR is 960 x 1080 per eye (1920x1080) vs 1080 x 1200 per eye (2160x1200) in the Rift/Vive.

I ended up buying the Rift because I wouldn't be using room scale and I think it is pretty impressive but there is not a huge amount of content at the moment. Higher resolution should definitely be a priority in the next version though.

I agree once the resolution gets to 2-3 times what we have now it will really be the end of normal gaming IMHO.

I tried Quanero which was quite an interesting concept. It is basically a VR whodunnit where you control time in order to investigate and find out what happened. Shows good potential of a unique way of storytelling for the VR medium.
Enjoyed this a lot. An interesting idea and the teleporting works in the context of the game. Stacks of detail in it as well.

SteamHammer - Annoying but could be good if they streamline stuff a bit.
Rail Adventures - It's a tech demo and not a great one. Don't waste your bandwidth.

Heads up. Raw Data is on a free weekend, it's got pretty good reviews.
