I've tried a DK2 and the tracking etc was great, the only issue was the overriding ability to "see the pixels" - I just couldn't become immersed in it due to the relatively low resolution of the screen (and being completely unable to read any ingame text because of it).

Does the Vive have a higher resolution? If so - can you still see pixels or is the effect quite diminished?

I loved, but ultimately sold, my DK2 before Christmas in preperation for the next phase in the CV1/Vive, but I've still not decided on what camp to go for. The OR is meant to be the slightly better headset, but on the flipside I prefer the idea of the Vive's roomscale approach, plus I think long-term the Steam/Valve association will have the bigger impact in gaming.

That being said, unless I jump in the queue I won't get my hands on one until Christmas!

The Vive/CV1 both have reduced SDE, but not significantly better to eliminate it.

That being said, I found that after a while, my brain adjusted and pretty much 'ignored' it. It was only when reading text that it made itself really known.

Thanks everyone!

Good to know that racers like the headsets - after the Giant Bomb stream I was worried they would be too low res for trying to spot apex's in the distance (not that I actually trouble them anyway when I try to turn in).

My Rift pre-order limps along in a depressing fashion. When i ordered it still said April shipment but website issues meant my order didn't go through until minute 40.

ETA is now early June :-(.

I got my hopes up as they got to around minute 30 in the UK, but that was too far ahead of other countries to tey have turned down the dial. Europe hasn't recieved any units at all for two weeks now....hopefully some coming through next week.

Everyone got in a tizzy when they released some PC bundles with headsets...now everyone is in a tizzy again because they have released some in actual shops (US only)....and now everyone is in a tizzy again because they have changed the shipping from quicker air freight to slower ground freight.

It's been quite a painful wait so far...

My vive arrived this morning.
My OR doesn't come until July. If I don't cancel that is.

I have no problems with the apex but spotting brake markers can be tricky if they are not that obvious. That's on a DK2.

Am now just waiting for injury reports to hit the headlines given that my mate tried mine last night and whilst reaching over to grab something in the game, he tried to lean on a virtual stone block, stumbled forward and almost face-planted into my bedroom wall!

He also jumped at one point whilst being attacked and hit his head on my ceiling lamp hehe

This is a real problem. More than once I have tried to get up by pushing on a table or stone that of course isn't there. I have also put my controllers down on a table. Fortunately, they were attached to my wrists.

I tried the lab which is interesting and varied and the brookhaven experiment which was terrifying (but they need to work on the positional audio).
Unseen Diplomacy was a good idea that didn't work as I didn't have the play space.

This a a bit of a concern, I am playing in my cinema room which is a double garage. That's a good amount of floor space in an english house and it's not really enough. Something to be aware of.

I got one on Friday last week, awesome bit of kit, as above yeah the res isn't the best and it's got a way to go but even so it's seriously impressive and I'm sure many hours will be spent with it!

The lab is great
Tilt brush is great too (don't miss the 'showcase' section)
Universe sandbox 2 very cool, takes a while to suss out the buttons but very immersive
Elite dangerous is good, but found the text very hard to read

I love it for "VR" games, but I do miss the simplicity of my DK2 for sim-racing - the vive doesn't have many supported games yet so having to install hacks/patches to get it to work is a pain. That's a time problem though not a vive thing!

I'm going to want additional lighthouses as well as my room scale and seated areas are in different rooms.
If pcars, iracing and AC can get Vive support before July I'll probably cancel my rift.

Elite isn't Vive optimized yet, so the optics are way off - they're working on it:

And this is the issue with the Vive - the Rift (via DK1 and DK2) has been in the hands of developers alot longer than the Vive, so support for the Rift is far better at the moment.

I'd like to think that, long term, with Valve's backing, the pendulum will swing the other way, which is why I'm hedging my bets on the Vive (although I'm waiting for Rift motion controller announcement first)

I tried it earlier..... I wasn't sure I even wanted to go on to round 2 I was crapping myself so much!

Got to round3 when I got overrun and took the headset off before.... I don't know what happens biggrin

Amazing how you really feel you're there, nothing like a monitor !

I'm thinking FEAR on VR (and how I will not be playing it)

That is not happening!

I'd end up running into the wall smile

When they sort out the movement for it, with treadmills or something in a few years time it'll be insane.

It's happened! biggrin
