HTC Vive...let's try this VR stuff..

HTC aren't following suit:

The Vive only really excels at room scale; unless you really, really want that, the Rift is the better headset, and now even cheaper too. I'd still personally back the Vive, as I'd prefer to be in camp "Valve" rather than bed-in with Facebook and Palmer....but with that price difference...

Why do you say the OR is better?
Most reviews I've seen have them pretty much pegged and it really comes down to personal preference. I'd say the OR has the edge with racing games just on supported titles but that's really just a first to market advantage. I've had a DK1, DK2, PSVR and a Vive, the reason I opted for Vive over OR for CV versions was pretty much that I got it sooner, it had room scale out of the box and it was Valve backed. I don't specifically have an issue with FB though.
I think that's been the same for a lot of people as I have read the Vive outsells the OR 2:1.
Might change now though.

I finally got round to trying the Oculus 'Bullet Train' free game over the weekend. Very short but, very impressive! Controls are rather clunky as they have been developed for Oculus touch, not the Vive controllers but, with a bit of practice I think they'll be fine.
The full game sequel 'Robo-Recall' has now been released and, from what I have seen online, it looks to be the first AAA game developed exclusively for VR. The only downside is having to pay £23 for unsupported software which could stop working with revive at any point. Although, I suppose it is no different to Dirt Rally or Project cars in that respect.
Before diving in and buying it, I'm going to try and get the developers version to work through revive (downloaded directly from Epic rather than through oculus store) as apparently you can play through the first level so, it should essentially be a free demo. A bit of a convoluted way of doing it but, hopefully worth it if it is as much fun as it looks.

Huh - I got Robo recall free as part of my Touch bundle - forgot it was from the bullet train demo studio!! Will have to try that out later, the demo was cool (if easy). The full game sequel 'Robo-Recall' has now been released and, from what I have seen online, it looks to be the first AAA game developed exclusively for VR. BTW - I also got a wheelstandpro for my Birthday so I can now do Project cars properly! Thanks for the advice back in January!

Yup, it's a freebie for any new touch owners and quite a good one by the looks of it. I don't think there was any damage in bullet train (was there?) - I seemed to get hit with loads of bullets and rockets but, didn't die and just carried on regardless. I doubt Robo recall will be quite that simple!Irrotational said:

Excellent, it makes a big difference, doesn't it. VR is mind blowing, only had a small blast last night, but I can highly recommend the Rift experience in Project Cars, only did 4/5 laps of Bathurst and it extraordinary. I've played with triple screens for almost a year thinking it was good, the rift is beyond awesome. The drop in visual performance was nowhere near as bad as I remember it being when I tried the Vive at OCUK.

It's pretty cool did you get on ok setting up the controls? I have project cars on steam with a rift and it was a bit of a faff to get it setup. I think my reset view button has been unmapped again as well.born2bslow said:

It is so hard to explain to anyone who hasn't tried it, just how good it is! I can only imagine that the Vive you tried at OCUK wasn't optimised (by using SS) which may have effected the visuals. I've always found PCars in the Vive to look pretty darn good Irrotational said:

Really? I don't remember it being a faff - I'm pretty sure I just installed the Jack Spade tweaker files for handling and everything else worked pretty much out of the box.Couple of good ones to try - Belko VR an escape the room, quite intense but well done with good voice acting and mostly logical problems to solve. You only have 15 minutes to escape so quite short but I've died twice so far and not made it out. It's plugging a movie but is a quality release. Recommended.
Nevrosa: Prelude - Demo, puzzle solving. Looks good and reasonably logical problems to solve that give you good feedback that you are heading in the right direction. I had a bit of a problem with control at one point but solved now.

1440 x 1280 ish per eye it looks like, up from 1080 x 1200
Make it wireless, built in earphones and compatible with my existing lighthouses and controllers (so I don't need a full set) and I'm in.
I think Valve are doing the right thing here. Opening it up to all comers vs OR's approach of a closed ecosystem.

Wouldn't wireless = extra weight due to batteries? I think I'd take lightness and deal with the wires, although after only a couple of nights the wire sticking to the leather of my racing seat behind my head does annoy me a bit. I'm not a big sound junkie so headphones and sound quality isn't a deal breaker for me, I find the OR ones very comfortable which is important to me as I have very sensitive ears which get hot very easily (I find it distracting).
