I drove a caterham round cadwell park in a rift headset, with wheel/pedals, on project cars and I was very impressed!

You can tell you're looking at a screen etc but it does enough to "trick" your subconcious and so you react to things in a very normal way. I flinched at crashes and/or cars coming close to side-swiping me.

The resolution could be better, but once you're in a game/some action you over-look that very quickly and just get on with having fun.

I'd struggle to recommend buying a PC and headset (and wheel) to do it from scratch but it's really very good.

I had a go on the Playstation VR unit the other week. Of course it's not quite the finished product but I have to say I wasn't overly impressed (I put on a brave face for my friend who was working on it biggrin)

Compared to the Vive it felt less immersive - I think because you're still using a controller to interact but it could also be because the Vive gave me my first 'proper' VR experience so had that initial wow factor. I found myself using the controller rather then my head to look around me as it was more comfortable that way. I felt a little odd for a while after too which I didn't get from the vive.

I've only had a limited go on both devices but the motion sensing made a much bigger difference then I thought - however that brings a whole set of practical problems which will restrict the uptake.

I'm very curious to see how this pans out over the next year.

Anyone know anything about Rfactor 2 support? Seems to be very little info on the internet...

The only thing I found that might work is Vorpx??... :/

Trying Vorpx - seems pretty jenky... will see if I fiddle with settings if that helps

People have used Vorpx to get VR working on games like Skyrim but it does take some fiddling, try google searching on that for tweak hints that might work for rFactor 2

Defo needs the settings adjusting as I tried P3D and that was much clearer to the point of being playable where as RF was just not there, could not see the apex or braking points clearly. I hope ISI will sort out proper VR support. Part of me wonders if the OR will be better in this context..

Managed to spend a proper hour with the Vive last night and its amazing! The games are low resolution but you don't even notice. I played Hotdogs and that was like a shooting game from 15 years ago - very Counterstrike but you a *are* there. Its mental. Then the Blu sea thing, that's just amazing. Lastly had a go on The Lab and standing in front of a table with a big model of a castle on it then actually going down into small scale and fighting a battle in the castle. INSANE!

A friend of mine came round for a quick go and was blown away.

I did have an evil moment though when I asked the wife if she wanted a go and put her in the zombie game and she almost sh*t herself!

Next step making my gaming space bigger. I moved to a larger room where I had 3.5x3.5m to play in but I am going to move a few more things and get more like 3.5x4.5 which should make it even better.

HOTAS arrived today so I can have a go at these space games everyone talks about smile

What I find really interesting is [borat]myyyy wy-fe[/borat] is actually interested in having a go and has tried most of the games.

Shown zero interest in any of my previous PS2,Xbox,PS4 or PC games.

Worryingly she likes the shooting range in Hotdogs and last night spent about 20 minutes sending a good 500+ rounds down range, and quite a good shot too!

Check to see if she has recently taken out any life insurance policy for you.

My missus is a very casual gamer. She plays some cutesy platform games from time to time and likes playing fighting games to try to beat the crap out of me (make of that what you will biggrin) but she isn't an avid gamer and often shows interest because she knows I like it and likes to join in sometimes.

However the VR stuff is different, she is very keen to give it a try. I think part of the reason is that it's a very different experience to lying on the couch killing stuff, there is a hell of a lot more interaction. Plus even at this early stage it seems developers are experimenting with the format and trying stuff other than the usual shoot\fight\race genres that dominate the market. More than any other development I think VR may be the hook that draws in more non\casual gamers. Whether you think that is a good thing or not is of course debatable. While I applaud making it more wide-stream, I'd also hate to see one of my favourite hobbies watered down to suit the lowest common denominator to improve sales.

My mrs gets bored really quickly and if she cant figure out how to work something she just leaves it and it gathers dust but she actually spent about half an hour working out the controls and basically did it all herself. I know its not complicated but she would normally either not attempt it at all or give up after about 15 seconds!

I know this is obvious but it's more interactive and closer to real life. I think the biggest things that put women off gaming are it's not life like, most games are concentrated on fantasy worlds that are very different to the real world and very much male centric to boot, shooting, fighting, racing etc.

Add in the fact that a games controller is not a very natural way to control stuff, it only feels natural to us as we have got used to it through years of gaming and you can see that there are already huge barriers to entry.

Plus gaming isn't a very social activity, OK online games are changing that a bit but again it's not real. My OH can often be heard jokingly saying stuff like "talking to your virtual friends again" but it shows a mentality that it's not real life so not worth bothering with. I think the fact that VR makes it all seem more real and the control of your environment is more natural, i.e you actually look around to look around rather than tying to move a little stick a few millimetres is the big draw.

Agree with all of this. Gaming is going to change massively in the next 5 years, and it'll be brilliant.

Still think sim racing is the best use of it though! wink

My Vive arrived last week (although still awaiting my 3 free games!!)

Compared to my DK2, I'm a little disappointed - there's very little improvement in screen quality, and it's far less comfortable; the cables are quite intrusive. That being said, roomscale improves VR in every conceivable way, I wouldn't even bother without it. I know OR Touch is coming soon, but I'm expecting a very long order queue there so I'd have been even more disappointed going from DK2 to CV1.

One important thing is - turn on SuperSampling! It's massively improved things for me. I've got a 980, set it to 1.6 and Elite Dangerous has seen a *huge* improvement in fidelity. Other games are improved too, well worth doing if you haven't already.

I did SS on my profile a couple of weeks ago - defo made a good difference - a few dropped frames here and there but I run a 960. @1.5 at the mo.

Waiting for 1080ti..

Content needs to start speeding up though - need a few decent games now as playing the same things over and over is getting a bit old.

You get the free games on Steam, you should have had a code emailed.

Anyone tried the Star Wars 'demo' yet?

What would it be like for someone who is blind in one eye? Will it still work (immersion wise?)
