I've never played any of the Forza franchise. I have been a huge fan of the Gran Turismo games up to and including 6. Recently also been hugely enjoying Project cars of late with a G26 wheel.

Generally I prefer the realism aspect and the complex handling engines. My (quite possibly wrong) understanding is that Forza is more arcade-y rather than simulator-y - is that the case?
Horizon certainly is, but the Motorsport series is basically an Xbox Gran Turismo.

Yeah, Horizon isn't designed with realism in mind. That said, it's no Need For Speed - grip is reduced in the wet, and if you drive with no assists on, some cars will slide all over the place if you're over exuberant with the power. It's the perfect balance of realism and arcade for me, it's a lot of fun.

Forza 6 is definitely a lot more realistic, and I'd say it's far better than Gran Turismo in terms of physics these days. The fact is, GT has been left behind in terms of being the 'ultimate driving simulator', and it's a real shame; I've been a huge fan of GT since being 8, with GT4 probably being my favourite.

The only thing Forza 6 lacks is the character of Gran Turismo titles. The career mode is linear, championships have no merit, and it just feels too clinical to me. However, Polyphony really need to shape up for the next Gran Turismo; how can a series that takes three to four times longer than it's rivals to develop and release be so flawed when it eventually arrives? The sound of the cars is a major issue in this regard.

Anyway, apologies for the off topic ramble.

I tried last night and couldn't get online...it was saying there were some sessions available, but then just kept dropping out of whatever it was trying to do.

How do you join a club?

Not a bad pack to start with!
Going through getting the cars in the game now, what the hell is a Spania GTA Spano? Never heard of it or seen it before

Does Horizon have the same modding aspect that the motorsport series has? IE can I paint up my cars and put silly big wings on them?

Yes, in a word. FH3 has widebody kits for some cars, too.

They're hilarious, I wondered what the hell a widebody kit for a Reliant Supervan was...

The Supervan is utterly out of control when you give it more power, I'm not quite sure why it's even in the game! laugh

There's an achievement for jumping one 300ft+ at the danger sign in the desert just outside the airport...I dread to think how it handles over the dunes.

I'm sure you've all heard this before, but this is the one thing I truly hate about forza- the dlc, I've never seen so many on a game/ game series. The game itself costs a fair amount (and I'm sure they make a healthy profit on that). Then they expect you to pay more than the original game price, in order to gain access to content that could and should have been in the game from the start! I only ever buy the Porsche dlc, as it seems to actually be worth the money, rather than buying a dlc, only to use each car for 5 minutes, then they are banished to the depths of the garage. Rant over.

I've never been quite sure how I feel about Forza and its DLC. One one hand, it's not as if they skimp on the number of cars included in the standard game (Forza 5 aside...) and there's p;enty of fun to be had without buying a single piece of DLC, but on the other hand, as you say, there's no real reason why the DLC cars need to be released periodically after the game itself and cost more money to gain access to.

I guess when you have the market cornered in the way Forza does, in both Motorsport and Horizon forms, you can get away with charging for things that other companies couldn't. In my opinion, nothing comes close to Forza games in the markets they target. Horizon has vastly better driving physics than any other open world racing game and any Motorsport from about 4 onward is a far better, more modern feeling game than any Gran Turismo, which is arguably Forza's main rival; further up this thread someone described Forza Motorsport as "Gran Turismo for Xbox".

Although it's been done before I do agree that despite being a PS fanboy the GT series hasn't recovered from 5. I agree this is the best open world racing game out there although I do love test drive unlimited 2 but like other games the hype overtook it and what was pushed out early was just not finished.

I got my final barn find last night and was slightly disappointed with the selection to be honest. Also could anyone recommend me a hypercar, my Regara is just too much of a handful frown I was thinking of the Zonda Cinque or the K. one:1

If you stick all the performance mods on the Aventador it has just north of 1500bhp, whilst still being vaguely controllable as it's AWD. With a bit of tweaking of the gear ratios, mine did 273mph through the speed camera at the end of the airport runway.

Thank you will give that one a bash, a couple more spins and I'll have enough to tune it up although recently I've been getting the 1k 'wins' lol

The Goliath Circuit race (~10-11 mins per lap) using a Horizon Edition car which boosts your credits is the fastest way to earn money that I've found. I guess you could also use an XP boost Horizon Edition car and hope that the extra wheelspins will earn you more than the extra race credits, I'm not sure which would actually be best...

Unfortunately I've only got the F-Type and the Focus Horizon cars so far which I believe are XP and Drift bonus' respectively, I just missed out on the Viper and was the other side of the wheel for the Mustang last night but can't remember what boost they gave. I've got all the roads now so am just chilling doing all the events right now, got 3x tier IV venues and the last one is tier II so building my way up smile

Agree with you there, they make great games, you're just screwed if you don't have season pass!

The season pass grates on me. Mainly because you know they are keeping some great cars back, along with a slew of mediocre ones, to form DLC later on. By the time they come out, my interest in the game will have long since faded. I can see why the developers seek to monetise everything they can but they're even selling DLC collectible maps for those who can't be arsed to play the game!
