Went into Manchester yesterday to do a few bits, Mrs wasn't impressed I spent the whole day on Pokemon Go. However I hatched my 10k egg and got an Oynx, also caught a few high cp Pokemon. Just evolved an Evee and now have a 800+ cp Flareon!

Unless you defeat the leader you aren't doing anything really, so not much point! It's worth noting a decent lower CP Pokemon might be able to take out a higher CP one.

And look at the types too. I took one the other day filled with fire types. Vaporeon destroyed them.

Generally a faster Pokemon with a decent normal attack (even better if it's super effective) will be a good attacker, whilst the high health ones (Snorlax and Lapras are the main two) are better defenders.

Vaporeon seems to be pretty much the best all rounder at the moment.

Just caught a Gyarados in Manchester, just off Whitworth Street. First rare one I've seen.

Now everyone's going to tell me it isn't rare. frown

A question. If I go for a walk, if I put the phone in a pocket after some time the screen shuts down and PG shuts down. For example tonight it has registered only 0.2km on a short walk that is well over 2km as recorded by Map my Walk app.

Yet if holding the phone it works ok.

Is this a PG issue or a phone issue? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Sounds like it could be something to do with your battery saving settings?

Almost all phones these days use the light sensor. If it is blocked of light it will lock the phone. Depending on settings it may disable features during that time(like gps). It's the reason why many phones will turn off the screen when you put the phone to your ear in a call.

Your best bet imo is to leave the screen unlocked and have the brightness down as low as it will go. Depending on your settings you could put on power saving mode if stucco handle the game at reduced cpu power. If evera pokemon spawns nearby your vibration feature will go off.

Thing is though, the Map my Walk app works fine when phone is in the pocket and the screen is shut down and phone locked, but will try altering power saving settings etc.

Pokemon Go doesn't run in the background. It needs to be open and active for it to work whereas it sounds like Map My Walk can run in the background

Try battery saver mode in your pocket whilst leaving the app open.

Anyway, my highest CP before tonight was 920 with Vaporeon. Caught the Tentacruel and Poliwrath and upgraded them a bit. Won over 4 gyms tonight as well, but they've all been destroyed again. Also found a wild Starmie, unfortunately it dashed off after I chucked a great ball at it. Caught Scyther too, but only 350CP.

Did my first evolution run, had been pushing on without evolving until now to get a nice backlog to lucky egg, got my first Pokemon over 1000 so pretty pleased with that.

Finally have a 10k egg too.

Had a guy following me and a friend around in a Civic EK Jordan, got a bit weird as he never introduced himself, car was nice though.

Bah was wondering if I could at least partially wear them down might have been worth a punt.

If I do battle and get my ass handed to me, would there be any loss to my own pokemon or would I make the defending gym stronger somehow?

If it's a friendly gym, you can use only one Pokemon to train the gym and you must defeat at least one of the ones in there to level it up.

If it's an enemy gym, you can use 6 Pokemon. Defeat doesn't do anything that I'm aware of, I've beat some decent sized Pokemon on my own at level 3/4 gyms. Picking the right type to defeat the types in there, eg. Water type against fire, electric against water, fire against bug etc. You'll have to defeat the gym multiple times to remove all enemy Pokemon from it.

The only downside to battling is having to revive or potion your Pokemon back to health. I have way too many potions as it is and have been discarding them for Pokeballs.

A couple of pals and I held 3 gyms at once last night. They all got took over quite fast, but 1500 stardust and 30 Pokecoins got cashed in whilst they were briefly held.

XP is the main reason to battle a gym, even if you can't capture it.

If it's a level 3 gym, there may be 3 pokemon in it. Even if they're more powerful than your own, you still have a chance of winning as you get to use 6 pokemon in the battle.

Use a lucky egg, earn something like 600-1200 XP from winning, revive / heal your pokemon with the abundance of potions and revives you've stocked up, then go at it again.

Did you use a lucky egg when you did evolution run?

Went for a long walk round my local area on Sunday morning to get some egg hatching done, enjoy the sunshine and do a wee bit of exercise. 6km in, I turned up at Kilburn Grange Park and noticed there were a shedload of pokestops there, so I decided to sit down where two of them overlapped and enjoy the sunshine. Dumped a couple of lure modules and activated a lucky egg and incense so I could turbo grind some xp through evolutions and captures.

10 minutes later, I look up to see there are 5 other people around me, very obviously playing Pokemon Go. A runner who was catching his breath, a couple who appeared to be on some expedition together and a father and young daughter, all swiping pokeballs. Knowing nods were exchanged. hehe

Went to Bath yesterday, I couldnt believe how many pokestops there were, amazing compared to living where I am and only having one pokestop a mile away lol. Caught a Dratini on the canal too which was pretty awesome. No where near the level some of you guys are at. Highest Pokemon is 586CP at the moment. Highest single catch was a 422cp Hypno.

It's really cool meeting different people playing it.

Last week before heading home from work I swung through the services to check up on 'my gym' laugh

It had been taken by Mystic. So I parked up, battled and won it back. As I was healing the rest of my Pokemon, this kid walked up to the structure thing that was the gym, with his phone. I knew what he was up to. 5 minutes later, it's blue again.

He turns round, walks past my car and gives me a nod of acknowledgement. Kid's about 12. Couldn't help but smile and give him a thumbs up, I was playing Pokemon on my Gameboy Colour at his age.
