I've been one single Magikarp candy short of being able to evolve for the last 3 days. Manchester is utterly crap for finding pokemon!! hehe
Haha! Got so many of them I'm ? of the way toward a fourth Gyarados! I even had a 5km egg hatch into a Magikarp yesterday! Admittedly that was a quite impressive CP135 mind....
I don't live in Manchester; I was just up there for a couple of days on business. I'm now in a hotel next to Exeter airport, and there's not even so much as a Pidgey here! hehe

Next week, I'll be back in the office in Waterloo, and will finally get my Magikarp! biggrin

I play this with my son (10) who is still loving it, but I'm finding the grind past level 20 painful with only the potential temptation of new functionality (buddy, trading etc.) keeping me ticking over with it to see what happens.

I feel that the Pokestop drop rate for eggs has decreased after level 20 as I seem to be constantly running out of eggs. Part of that may be the increased propensity of the little buggers to keep escaping or running off at higher levels, but I have five Pokestops near my work and a lunchtime stroll every day hitting each twice was all I seemed to need to keep myself with ~100 balls of varying flavours.

It's got to the point where I'm no longer interested in Ratatas, Spearows etc. as the 'cost' is too great. With another 50k XP to go before I hit level 22 it's going to be a looong while. We live in the country which means it's a lot harder to level up than in a built-up area.

Limited ability to catch rarer Pokemon also means it's hard to acquire enough candies to power up some Pokemon. For instance, I've had a Dratini since about day 1 and caught a wild Dragonite (CP of a whole 47! rolleyes) a few weeks ago, but that's it and after powering it up a couple of times I now have no candies and limited chance of getting any more. There seem zero chance of player in my situation ever getting something like this to a decent level.

It's my 9 yo that loves it. Sets me my task to do on the dog walk now he's back at school. Which gym to battle with which Pokemon, who to leave when I win it. And it's the first thing he asks about at home time.

Agree the level increments are getting bigger, but I still think the lucky egg, used to evolve all your pidgey and weedles is the best way to ease that. We've got 30,000 XP saved up in evolves, which will put us 3,000 away from clearing level 21. Also half way to buying 8 more lucky eggs with our coins.

I've plenty of eggs, always seem to have 9, and used the 2 extra incubators given at level 20.

Looking forward to the buddy system too. smile

I have found this game so static, I'm hoping the apple watch app will make me want to play more.

Went to Cyprus for a week and ended up with 11 new Pokemon registered to Pokedex, heaps of Geodudes, Growlithes, Sandshrews, Doduos, Cubones and Ekans. Helped that the McDonalds next to my hotel was a spawn smile

Rooted devices unable to play once next update comes out. frown

A bid to prevent cheaters apparently. But, I presume the cheaters will find a way round this, and honest players with rooted devices (me!l) will be out.

For thick people like me, what does "rooted devices" mean?

It doesn't just affect rooted phones either. It also looks like anyone using CyanogenMod can't load the game even when this was factory installed.

I have a Oneplus One which isn't rooted and can't play the new version.

It seems like the developer doesn't care about keeping any users not using a standard iPhone or Samsung

From someone who's only about 1/4 of a step up from a "thick" person......

Rooting a phone means enabling the user to make changes to the operating system of the phone, allowing them to change the base software that it runs and therefore having greater control.

Main benefit for me is being able to run a custom operating system, rather than what Samsung or Orange choose to put on it. So as few or as many apps as one wants.

But AIUI many of the ways of faking your GPS location also require this root-level access in order to work.

A rooted device would let you install a GPS spoofer app, meaning you could run an unmodified Go app and still spoof location.

True, but if you consistently do mass evolutions with the lucky egg, which gives you double XP, then it still gets you through half of a level or so, that way. Less hunting and walking to do, to get from one level to the next. Still, I agree, it does get boring. The potential to make it interesting again is there - buddy system, tracking, legendary pokemon, generation II till IV pokemon, pokemon go plus, etc etc etc. Bring it on, Niantic!

Also, you shouldn't attempt to evolve weak dragonites and the like. Ignore them. Save candy for really evolutions of your strongest pokemon, once in a while (instead of evolving pokemon as you get them), and leave stardust until the time you're actually able to win and hold a gym - that way you will know better which pokemon are worth powering up.

I'm not sure. The vast majority of people I talk to are normal folks that wouldn't even know what rooting a phone was, I think it will certainly ps off some people but not enough to really harm Niantic. The game going 'stale' for people is a much bigger deal I think.

Yeah, that works up to 21 or so, but even a 'full' roster of evolves with a lucky egg will only get you 25k-odd XP which is only a third of that needed to get to 22, a quarter to get to 100 etc. Lucky eggs are rare enough that you can't just do this at will, unless you spend coins which either means having gyms nearby or spending real money.

You should be able to get more like 50k exp per lucky egg if you evolve efficiently enough smile

The internet reckons anywhere from 65-75 evolutions are possible with an egg, the last evolve gained me 80k exp but I think for the last 15 or so the egg had run out.

Yeah, with each evolution taking about 30 seconds I suppose it's possible to do about 60 (assuming no additions to Pokedex), but I'm rarely focussed or patient enough to have more than about 25-30 ready and even then I sometimes run out of time. I usually do it at the same time as my son though so that means interruptions etc. smile

I still have two lucky eggs left. One of my lucky eggs was wasted by kids early on too, but all the others I only used when I had a full roster of 50+ evolutions waiting. I can't do 50 evolutions in half an hour either, but seem to be able to do enough to get me through a third of a level, as you say. In fact I do the lucky egg thing combined with a lure module, so in between the evolutions I also catch pokemons for double the XP. A bit more entertaining than non-stop evolutions of weedles and pidgeys. Wish I lived in a house with a direct access to a pokestop so that I could do mass evolutions from my living room biggrin
