How does catching a Ditto work? Do you just catch what looks like a Pidgey etc, and it turns into a Ditto? I've been catching everything I can and nothing has been a Ditto in disguise...
Yes. You don't know it's a Ditto until it is caught.I have a question, on behalf of erm, my daughter... (I take a lunchtime stroll around Moorgate & Finsbury Square to stock up on balls and interesting Pokemon for her).
Currently on Level 17, have a few Pokemon with CP of max 6-700, and we're nurturing a few with big potential to power up and evolve to bigger numbers and potentially be good in battle. We've never joined a gym or tried any battles because it looks like all the established Pokemon in Gyms are all on 1500-2000 points, so we'd get mullered.
Is this something we should just get stuck in and see what happens or do we still need to wait and get our Pokemon to reasonable CP levels?

Rewards from being in a gym are pokecoins. And XP if you actually battle one, or train in it. (10℅ of the prestige change).
At the very least, if you spot a friendly gym with a space, put something in it, and collect the coins and Stardust.
Worst case you get kicked out and use a revive / position. (Or put in a Pokemon that's 'sacrificial' and transfer it when it comes back beaten up)!

OK, I can see you just go and have a go. I've got plenty of revive potions and happy to sacrifice some of my higher scored but less potential pokemon. I guess this is where you have to hang around the location to train or fight in gyms?At the very least, if you spot a friendly gym with a space, put something in it, and collect the coins and Stardust.

You do have to physically be in the immediate location of the gym.
No need to hang around more than you need to to do the actual battling. You can go straight in to any gym. Even if someone else is already battling or training.
Start small, level 3-4 should be doable.
If you're not getting anywhere, walk away.

You can use the best Pokemon you've got. If they get beaten, you don't lose them or suffer any irreversible damage. Just give them a revive and some potions, and they'll be as good as new again. When they have been beaten, just go into Items and click on Revive, and you'll see a list of your knackered Pokemon waiting to be revived.
Well I was determined to get a Ditto today. Not sure exactly how many Ratattas, Pidgeys etc I chased, but including a spell with a lucky egg evolving three new 'Mons I've amassed about 170,000 XP and levelled up (to 27) and finally, finally watched a Pidgey morph into a CP122 Ditto. Yay!!! Phew!!! Yay!!!

When does double XP end?
I transferred 200 Pokémon earlier in the week. Bit gutted about that now.
Runs for a week.I transferred 200 Pokémon earlier in the week. Bit gutted about that now.
Why would you transfer 200 pokemon, presumably leaving around 50 (assuming you haven't upgraded the default pokemon storage space)? If for example you had 60 Pidgey candies, you should keep at least 5 Pidgies...

Is there any difference between the current double up promo and a lucky egg?
Time to evolve, evolve evolve right?
No difference, except it is now x4 with a lucky egg and the promo in effect Time to evolve, evolve evolve right?
Evolved a few this afternoon to push me to Level 20 and grab a couple of lucky eggs. Will use those to over the weekend with some lures to max out the XP where I can.
Is it definitely 4x with an egg?
