Pokemon Go - Don't be shy....

There's been loads of chatter about Ditto hiding behind Rattatas and Pidgies but i've yet to see one despite catching loads of the gits.
Any suggestions?
I got mine from a Rattata, it was a fairly hard to catch one though so I risked wasting an ultraball on it. Any suggestions?
I think just keep going, mine was in a spot that spawns a few common Pokemon every half hour or so, I probably caught 7-8 Rattata in the same spot before I got the one that was actually a Ditto.
If nothing else, all the Pokemon you catch can be evolved and used to level up.
On Sunday I was all prepared to farm some XP by doing evolves with my lucky egg... 4 or 5 new Pokemon evolved along with ~20 Pidgeys, 20 Weedles, around 12 Ratatas and a handful of others that I had enough candy for. I finished just in time to realise that I hadn't activated my egg!
Oh, and my son managed to get two Dittos more than my zero.

I set out this evening with the intention of capturing a load of low level ones to see if anyone would transform into a ditto. Not a sausage. However, when I got home and the GPS reception went squiffy, my player avatar shot off up the road and a huge Magmar appeared! Never seen one before! Only CP30 / HP13, but it took loads of Pokeballs / Great balls to capture it for some reason.
Still getting the 7-day streaks for bonus XP, though?
This double XP event allowed me to finish level 24, blow through level 25, and get most of the way through level 26.
Although I am getting a bit bored with lack of new stuff me me (other than Ditto). There are lots of things which have never appeared (e.g. Omanyte, Kabuto, Kabutops, Dragonair, Dragonite) and I'm getting a bit bored now of endless Pidgie and Rattata. Even my eggs are all hatching stuff so dull that they get immediately transferred. There does seem to be more of the slightly rarer ones (e.g. Machop, Squirtle, Mr Mime), to the extent that I often don't bother with Mr Mime now, although still catching Squirtle as I don't yet have a Blastoise.

Yes, the double XP event already finished, at midnight.
I spent ages trying to find ditto, specifically went round for 2 hours catching all the low-level life, but nothing... until on Monday I caught two (disguised as Rattatas) on a leisurely walk from A to B that wasn't even a pokemon hunt per se.
Ditto can be disguised as Pidgey, Rattata, Magikarp or Zubat

This Gen 2 thing is an interesting point.
There seem to be (with odd exceptions) stuff with 3 evolutions, with evolving costing 25 and 100 candies, and stuff with 2 evolutions, costing 50 candies.
Will Gen 2 add an evolution to the current 2, costing 200 candies?
I need to re-stock my balls anyway, as a rural Pokemon-er, this involves quite a bit of cycling.

I'm not sure how they are going to handle it, but there are quite a few pre-evolutions in Gen2, such as Pichu, Igglypuff etc. Also some split evolutions from current ones, such as two new Eevee evolutions and a parallel evolution to Vileplume among others. There seem to be (with odd exceptions) stuff with 3 evolutions, with evolving costing 25 and 100 candies, and stuff with 2 evolutions, costing 50 candies.

ION I just got my first Ditto. Only 44CP and low IV, but it's in the 'Dex.

Finally got my last Pokémon on Friday, a Hitmonlee out of a 10km egg, and used this last week to get to level 30 Bring on Gen 2 I say!
Where do you find them all?I've only seen one Hitmonlee (in Brighton), although two or three Hitmonchans, and none of the others I mentioned earlier. Yet I come up to London most days so it's not as if I'm spending all my time in the country where it's rare to see anything interesting. I can't recall the last time I saw the silhouette of a new one.
I've tried wandering along the Thames (particularly Tower Hill and the south side of the river from there), and lots of parks within walking distance of my office (Altab Ali Park, Bunhill Fields, St Paul's Churchyard, Lincoln's Inn Fields in recent days). I've taken a bus ride through the West End, and lots of taxi rides. I've been to other major cities such as Birmingham and Manchester. I've been overseas (Amsterdam, for example). Where are all these fecking Pokemon hiding? How can so many people seem to have 3000CP+ Dragonites?!
Any tips online about nests and spawns seem to be out of date as soon as they are posted.
(Yes, I do feel a little better for that little rant. )
That was an interesting little trip to the post office.
Just before getting to a Pokestop, a huge cp 326 Onix (Disappointingly rated as "not great in battle") appeared. Was tricky to catch even with Razzs and Great Balls. A bit further on a cp 139 Jigglypuff (With what seem to be good stats and quite rare around here), and just as I got home my 10km egg hatched and gave me a cp 300 Omanyte with almost max stats!
So that's Magmar, Onix and Omanyte that I had never seen before, in less than a day. This phone doesn't go to work with me, so it doesn't get that much mileage in, so all in all a pretty good day so far.

Looks like they have done an update - My "Nearby" panel now shows background icons showing pokestops nearest the pokemon in question. Its a start! Just had a cp 494 Dewgong spawn over the road at 2am...
Yeah, they've finally rolled out this to Europe it seems! Will make it a bit easier to chase the most elusive of the gen 1 pokemon. There was a tangela outside my house last night and my son has picked up a few rare pokemon in the last day or so, looks like they may have increased the spawn rates to help folk fill up their 'dex before gen 2 launches?
In time-honoured fashion it looks like they have screwed up more than they fixed
4 times out of 5 the app seems to start with nothing on the radar and no pokestops, gyms etc. showing.
When you do get it to work it seems that the 'nearby' thing only shows the closest pokestop to the pokemon's location. That might work pretty well in central London etc. but out here in the sticks it just means that all Pokemon show up at the same pokestop, the only one in the village, and in fact the spawn points may be up to half a mile away - useless!

It's not easy being a rural Pokemon-er, I agree. I can take in 10 Pokestops on my cycle commute in, but it adds about 15 mins to my ride, and 10 Pokestops don't really "stock you up" very well. It seems my office is equidistant between 3 Pokestops, all a good way away, so the new feature isn't that helpful. With the increased spawn rates, is it that useful in a built up area? Surely it's just going to be full of ratatas and pidgeys anyway? It would be great to be able to turn off certain creatures...
