The majority of items you can buy from the in app store are highly dependent upon app stability and server stability, two factors that everybody is aware have been sub par. I've wasted lure modules, incense, lucky eggs and incubators because of Niantic failing on one or both of those two factors. Given Niantic's notoriously unresponsive customer service and Apple's policy of not sharing refund details with developers, being a bit cheeky with refunds seems like a one way bet to me.We can argue the morality of it, but the systems in place allow it and if nothing else a sudden loss of revenue might wake Niantic into getting things sorted a bit quicker.

Don't bother powering them up at all until you're 20+, as you'll just catch stronger ones and it's a waste of stardust and candy.Only power up the ones you need to use for gyms.

It appears that they have reduced the poll rate for updating egg progress significantly, presumably to reduce server load. It seems to only send GPS data every 3-5 minutes (based on my average walking pace of 6km/h) and *seems* to be doing straight line distances, rather than actually mapping your route. I walked the Inner Circle of Regents Park and the distance logged was significantly different between my Withings pedometer and what my egg's logged distances were.
