What's with the touching the inside kerb and doing a 180?

I've had a quick bash - I reckon there's more to come as I'm tip-toeing around the kerbs, I haven't played with the set up much yet and I've done faster 2nd & 3rd sectors on other laps.

Andy - can you add these details to your weekly briefing note?
Does this apply to PS4?

Don't know, try it!
My next question would have been - Where do I find this.
I'll have a sniff around later and see what I can work out.

I'm having another bash now.

Losing seconds is easy, 10ths are a bugger!

btw - don't include me in the points scoring - I'll have to dip in and out depending on what's going on.

Nice.

I'm pants in the last sector. I did a cracker early on but I can't replicate it; the harder I try, the more I bugger up the chicane.

I didn't get a single fastest sector, a tenth off in each. Mid 30.x should be possible if someone can do a clean lap.
I got a 1:30.5 last night (and posted it before deleting the message). I then realised I got it by completely cutting the final chicane... *sobs*

I have a theoretical best of 1:31.2 at the moment, so I might call it a day.

I found quite a good setup "concept" for this car, if you increase the rake and soften the rear springs it creates a DRS-like effect as the rear of the car is compressed on the straight reducing drag and pops back up in slower corners increasing downforce, a la Red Bull.

Worth a try if you're struggling with the setup.
This is a common technique with modern high downforce single seaters. It also gives you greater rake at low speed to increase agility where it's needed in chicanes and hairpins without compromising stability in fast corners. If you look at a stationary F1 or GP2 car they show this to a remarkable degree.

As did I, but far more frustratingly, I did a few laps where I was over 4 tenths up on that time and kept panicking and losing it all at the last few corners.

..and I'm really getting sick and tired of the kerbs - it's beyond a joke.

Finally got some laps in but not many valid ones. Should be able to get into the 1:30:xx with a clean lap - just need to do one!

Agree. I had another go last night. Touch kerb = instant, uncatchable, spin. It doesn't feel remotely realistic.

I can't seem to make any further improvements. Tried fiddling with setup and it usually seemed to make things worse. I know its S2 I struggle in, and I'm pretty sure it's that left hand corner that's at the bottom of a dip, but screwed if I can see where or how I can improve - if I try cut the corner on the kerb its instant spin-o-matic.

Anyway, not going to waste any more of my life on this challenge.

I can't comment on Barcelona and the T125, because I don't have the Barcelona track and I've not driven a T125 in real life. However, as a general point, it's not unusual for a modern slicks and wings single seater to get very out of shape if you take certain kerbs, particularly at high speed when you can massively reduce the aero effect in an instant over a kerb. Furthermore, on a sim you can only react to things that are visually obvious, whereas 90% of what you react to driving a single seater is through very subtle feel alone. Riding up a curb at 100mph+ and only reacting to the visually obvious oversteer when it happens would certainly cause an instant spin in a lot of cars that I've driven in real life. This is why historics are often more fun in driving sims: their optimum slip is high enough (or extends high enough) to be in the realm of the visually obvious.

Interesting. It's hard to say something isn't right if you haven't actually been in the exact same situation in real life. However if you touch the kerb, say with your left front just slightly, the car will start to rotate quickly and you'll be fighting to keep the car on the track - happens in slow and quick corners. It's almost as if the front left has suddenly gained a lot of grip and drags the rear of the car around.

Obviously the kerbs will unsettle the car as you go over but it just seems abnormal the way it reacts. I would expect it to throw you away from the corner due to the shape or the kerb but then again I've never driven over one of these things in a single seater...

Quick update of my time from last night's run. Lots two tenths on my previous PB in the last sector but gained in the second sector. I think I'm loosing too much time in the tight uphill chicane and the following fast right hand bend.

I'll try the T125 tonight smile I think I remember having that in a car on AC (specifically in the right hander after Pouhon at Spa) and yes, it didn't feel very real. The Formula Abarth annoys me in a similar way because it seems to have an inescapable tendency towards final oversteer in long corners, and no amount of setup seems to get rid of it.

The kerbs are odd, but I'm not that bothered it's the same for everyone. I watched a couple of F1 cars onboard on YT and they don't touch them either. I'm enjoying the Exos it's fun when you get in the groove, but it takes me a lot of laps to get there. My favourite classic cars will feel sssslllloooowwww after this!
But nice slidey fun! smile

I remember when I had my first ever test in a single seater, back in 2008, on my second or third lap I tried taking kerb at Copse (Turn 1, Silverstone National) and I was facing backwards almost before I even knew I'd done something wrong. In my Caterham or 2-Eleven it was fine. In time I got to know which kerbs I could touch and which I couldn't, and I also got much better at controlling the car through subtle feel (provided it's after 10am - I don't function in the mornings! I think all my spins in cars have been before 10am). So as I said earlier, I think it's probably a combination of those two things - lack of feel in a sim and the car actually being that twitchy.
