Gloss black Ski Slope advice
Discussion
Hi,
I currently have a wood upper centre dash ski slope, I really like the piano black look so I'm thinking about having this wood panel sprayed black at my local car paintshop.
Has anyone done this? if so what did it look like?
I have looked at purchasing a piano black item but I'm shocked at the price £800+ !!!!!
Thanks for any replies.

I got mine changed by the dealer when I bought it
Astomartinbits might have a suitable second hand one.
I have never used Astomartinbits , but don't recall any bad press about them
I've used astonmartinbits recently & have found them to be professional & knowledgeable with a good range of parts, that said you need to slightly careful & remember to add the VAT. On a couple of occasions I've double-checked the price with an AM dealer (& other indys like Nicholas Mee) & found them to be more expensive.Astomartinbits might have a suitable second hand one.

IIRC, the original piano black finish is done on top of a (walnut) wooden base anyway, so it should be fairly easy to remove yours and simply have a spray shop apply a piano black finish.
There's a post over on 6-Speed where someone did this to their aluminium version, so yours should be even easier as less prep involved.

Yes, i've looked at Aston martin bits, they don't have any secondhand units which will are the pre emotion key.
So a new one is £707 plus a conversion kit to allow for a metal unit £60 + VAT = £920 !!!!! WOW.
So, no i'm not purchasing one, i'll get my wood unit sprayed, hoping that the finish will be good.
Anyone else had this done??

Two comments:
1. The price you have been quoted for piano back is too high and almost what you would pay for a carbon fibre one. See this page from astonmartinbits: http://astonmartinbits.com/search?search=ski+slope...
2. Be very sure that you want piano black. Yes, it looks good but it marks easily and reflects an awful lot in bright sunshine. Personally, I love my new CF one

Our posts crossed in the ether! I acknowledge what you are saying about price now but surely your main dealer could do you a better price or are the ones for older cars all much more expensive? So a new one is £707 plus a conversion kit to allow for a metal unit £60 + VAT = £920 !!!!! WOW.

Agree totally with Pete. When I had my 9 it came with a pretty worn PB facia which I replaced. Don't know why I bothered really because after one summers driving, ours was a Volante, it had lots of little scratch marks and however hard I tried to keep it looking nice it didn't - and drove me up the wall. The V12V's both have full CF facias and look so much better and are far more stress free.Edited by IanV12VR on Friday 21st October 18:05
I wrapped mine with gloss black vinyl sheet for £5. Took about 20 mins with some water and a hairdryer! Then with an off-cut from wrapping the front in clear self heading film, I wrapped over the top and so now there are no scratches either!
