What racing game?
Discussion
Could anyone recommend me a decent racing game, doesn't have to be the latest and greatest. I'm on PS4.
Been ages since I had one, always used to like Gran Turismo but got bored of it after GT5, not much fun factor.
Something fairly realistic, cars customisable and importantly good tracks.. preferably real ones.. None of this arcade style driving round random streets etc.

Is Asseto Corsa any good with a controller? Tried project cars and I couldn't get the hang of it, I don't want to get a wheel.
I've just ordered project cars but I did read that on a review, it said turning all driver aids off makes it difficult and takes a fair bit of delicacy using the controller pad. Will just have to try and get used to it. I don't want a steering wheel either. PCars you can get cheap now and go for the game of year edition as all DLC with it. about 22 quid from CEX so total bargain.
AC pretty rough but we are getting updates to bring it inline with PC version at some point, can grab it for 20 odd quid from Amazon.
DiRT is just plain awesome.
And as a controversial one, i got Sebastein Loeb rally evo for £16 from CEX and its an absolute blinder of a game, really really not what i was expecting at all and so much better than people will tell you, wonderful physics in some surfaces better than DiRT.
The caveat with all the above is that i have full sim lite set up so TX wheel, pedals racing seat etc etc. I don't play these on controller so i'd say be prepared to get sucked in and want a wheel...
If I had to pick only one of those to take to a desert island......it'd be PCars as there is so much to do, not perfect by any stretch, but plenty of fun to be had so long as you love cars and racing.....
PCars is stunning to look at.

Should have PCars delivered when I get home, looking forward to it. I've read that it's a bit more career based starting from nothing which sounds good, the whole gaining EXP and $$ like gran turismo bored the life out of me after a while. I think my favourite race game was Toca race driver because it was a similar thing in terms of progression through the game, so hopefully I'll enjoy it.

Assetto Corsa is crap for wheel to wheel racing imo, it's just a hot-lap specialist sim.
I agree with this. So far on consoles its a bit of a disappointment, but they promise updates to bring it inline with PC version....But still can be picked up pretty cheap and enough in it to get something out of it.

Go on the project cars forum and search for controller setups, the default is awful and makes the cars undrivable. Once you reset them to the settings suggested on the forum you'll find it so much better
Seems to be lots of varied recommended settings, are there any you'd suggest to start with?So under controls - configuration i have
Steering deadzone 4
Steering sensitivity 20
Throttle deadzone 20
Throttle sensitivity 50
Brake deadzone 10
Brake sensitivity 30
Clutch deadzone 13
Clutch sensitivity 45
Speed sensitivity 60
Controller filtering 40
Controller input mode 2
These should get you going, its mainly the steering that is way too sensitive as standard

I'll give it a go, I started in the karts before and tried some settings off the pcars forum, was terrible and the kart would barely steer. So adjusted it till it worked... then tried those same settings with a normal car and couldn't keep it in a straight line haha. Seems the controller settings are quite important from car to car or at least when going from one thing to something the polar opposite like a kart to a RUF.

Can't go wrong for racing games on PS4, they're all good in their own way.
Project CARs is brilliant, great career lots of variety, but watch out for rain, the AI don't seem to slow down when it starts
Assetto Corsa drives great, has ferraris and lambos
Dirt Rally is insanely difficult but addictive
F1 2016, codies seem to have finally made a half decent F1 game, although it's not perfect it is good.
Get them all in the Black Friday sales

Adust the steering rack ratio in car setup rather than keep tweeking the controller settings, this should help when jumping between cars. Ive not changed my controller settings since i first set them (apart from when the game forgets them and resets itself...)I'll give it a go, I started in the karts before and tried some settings off the pcars forum, was terrible and the kart would barely steer.
