For track racing against impressive AI (not perfect but challenging) I'd go with Project CARS, career mode is brilliant, online racing is good but the interface is a bit clunky.Assetto Corsa is really only good for time trials, career is just a series of challenges, but it drives beautifully, and has Ferrari and Lamborghini. IMO the AI isn't as good as Project CARS. I haven't really played online, but with all games it's better with people you know and can trust not to grief you.
Dirt is the best Rally game IMO but incredibly difficult to master, rallyx is a hoot though.
If you are on PC and want something low stress where you can chill out and have a few beers while driving around, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are easy to play, but parking is difficult to master.
All of them are easy on the eye.

I've been very tempted by this, although currently only having european truck stimulator 2 to use it with! thinking about buying a ps3 + GT5 as well, but don't really have the spare £200 to fund everything... Wonder if it will be available for £130 in 6 months or so.
So it turns out not jumping on the black friday deal was a good idea.Max5476 said:
I reserved one of these at 11.00 last night. Will they honour the price even though it was one day. Dont want to drive 40 miles without success.
Yes they will, just been and picked up the below for £129.98 Cripes, I bought my G27 two years ago for £150 on Black Friday, and thought that was a good deal!
ETS2 and Assetto Corsa are my go to games when the wheel is set up, Spintires is also brilliant with use of the clutch pedal.
Is My Summer Car enabled for wheel use?
I can't bring myself to purchase project cars on account of the developers attitude towards customers.

Is that first hand experience or are you just going on other people's versions of how SMS treated them badly? There has been a lot of butt hurt on both sides with Project CARS, it certainly brought out the worst in a lot of people. From my time in the forums over there the only people who had problems were the ones who would scream and shout have hissy fits demanding this that and the other. Developers are only human after all. SMS decided to engage with these people and call them out when they were frankly rude. Other developers just ignore rant threads, SMS used the ban hammer.
I don't frequent the forums anymore, so maybe things have changed for the worse, but when i did the people who got banned or into trouble were just generally obnoxious and most of them frankly deserved it. For a little while after release there seemed to be a good number who had heard how SMS reacted and wanted to be banned as some kind of badge of (dis-)honour, in my opinion. It's a shame to miss out on such a good game just because the developers come across as dicks.
SMS have generally offered much better value DLC, and free content each month compared to other developers from where I'm sitting. Not trying to start an argument, just a slightly different perspective.

I can't disagree about the content, I am wishing for more AC cars and more intelligent AI. I trialed Pcars through a friends system and spend time on the usual forum before buying a game, and whilst it was visually more pleasing, i found the physics better in Assetto Corsa. As I was only buying one game only, I purchased the latter title.
Admittedly a lot of my opinion is based on forum / steam discussions, but I have seen some of Ian Bell's replies to genuine questions that have been posted, and wondered why this man is allowed to interact with the public.
I can understand the bugs that come with developing a game, but Being called an idiot by the company CEO for asking a genuine question doesn't strike me as good PR.

He's not the most diplomatic it has to be said...it's effectively his company so he can do as he pleases, and he usually does. I believe he is of the view, "there's no such thing as bad publicity" and "a little controversy never hurts sales". Hey, at least he is interacting with his punters, even if he is upsetting a few of them, how many other developers just hide behind press releases and PR statements. I love AC too although I don't drive it all that much lately due to restricted playtime, but the career mode in PCars just keeps pulling me back, the Ginettas in particular are lovely. I got the G29 around 6 months ago on a PC world deal. Didn't get the shifter with it but have since purchased a Th8a which I love. Doesn't work on the ps4 without the correct wheel but most of my racing is done on the PC anyway.
Racing games are so much better with a proper set up
Ooo, I like the look of the Th8a - the reason I didn't get the Logitech shifter was because you couldn't use it as a sequential shifter. There are some mods involoving elastic bands to make it sequential, but one designed from scratch would be preferrable! Bit pricey at £100 compared to the Logitech £35 mind.Racing games are so much better with a proper set up

It's more granted but you can feel the difference as soon as you use it. It's 90% metal and feels like a proper bit of kit rather than a toy. It even has stiffness adjustment Turning it up makes them more intelligent, I play 100% and if you treat them as you would a human player, i.e. sometimes a little unpredictable and slightly aggressive, you can have a good race with them. That said they cut corners and don't seem to slow down or spin off track the way I do. In the rain, they don't slow down at all either, I've been 10 seconds ahead and then it rains and they catch me within 2 laps. they're nor perfect, but better than most others.
For those of you who have got a bragain wheel and need a game to go with it. Project cars is £7.95 or £12.99 for the game of the year edition at https://uk.gamesplanet.com/game/project-cars-game-... Target="_blank" rel="nofollow">gamesplanet: https://uk.gamesplanet.com/game/proje...
Having had the wheel for a week, i've found the usage experience mixed. Its currently bolted to my desk, so ergonomically isn't perfect, but is close enough. I've used the wheel with three games so far, European Truck Stimulator 2, Grid 2, and the Project cars demo.
ETS2 - Initially found the FFB very weak, and quite notchy. I have since installed a FFB plugin http://forum.scssoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=109&t... which has transformed how the game plays, and is massively recommended. The wheel lines up nicely within the CAB and the weight feels very natural. The shifter is a bit tricky (12-speed mapped into a 6-speed) but I find it perfectly usable.
Grid 2 - Generally been quite terrible. This is quite an arcadey racing game anyway, but I haven't found any wheel settings which make the wheel feel natural. Whatever I tweak it feels very limiting in amount of lock available, and appears to have a very non-linear response. Additionally the G29 doesn't work out of the box. You have to go into the game files, and tweak some settings to make Grid 2 think it is a G27.
Project Cars - This was a revelation after Grid 2. I'm sure many will say Assetto Corsa (or other) is better, but for the level I play it just feels right. It immediately feels like my car does. Only played half an hour so far, so once downloaded this evening looking forward to getting stuck in.

T300 is the better wheel but the stock pedals are a bit naff. The T3PA pedals are decent but pricey when considered on top of the wheel itself.
The G29 is a reskinned G27 and therefore a pretty old design now. Now it's cheaper it's a justifiable purchase, but when it cost more than the T300 it was an absolute joke.
