Xbox one so sloooow
Discussion
Ok so bought my little 9 year old boy an Xbox one for his birthday its the first games console he has had, after *issing about and giving microsoft every bit of info i have i finally get it registered.
It came with Fifa which after 6 *ucking hours has only down loaded 5 gb of 42 Gb by the time it has down loaded he will be going down the pub with his mates.
Is this normal? it says down load speed is 3.5mbs its currently wireless but I'm thinking to get an ethernet cable and hard wire it
Never had this trouble with the atari 2600

sorry i have no idea I'm not so good at all this stuff.
You can try moving to a wired connection and see if it improves any, but I suspect it's just a big download on a slow connection. Top tip for those buying consoles for kids this Christmas. The device will probably want an update out of the box and the bundled games will need downloading. And the servers will be hammered Christmas Day.
Unbox it the week before, power it up and get the download/updates done. Then box it back up and it'll be ready to go at 9am on the 25th, rather than sometime on Boxing Day.

Very rough and ready, but 42Gb on a 3.5Mbps connection is going to take 28 hours. Time for a brew.

Go to www.speedtest.net and it will tell you what download speeds you can get.....
I would imagine the X-Box will also have a network test. I found my PS4 faster and more stable when I went wired...

Yup it's normal.
Your download speed is fairly low for such a big download. Leave it on overnight
Each time an update comes out you'll have a similar issue depending on the size of the download
Setting it to instant on will get around the updating issue:Your download speed is fairly low for such a big download. Leave it on overnight

Another tip here...
Disconnect the console from the Internet when you first install a game, it usually installs a lot quicker. When you reconnect to the Internet it will just install all the downloadable data it needs too. It doesn't work with every game to be fair, but worth a shot.
