Well that was a day to remember... Ginetta G40 is a lovely car to drive and good fun but alongside some of the stuff out there today it felt slow. Managed to get a bonus session in as well as there was time left over. At the driver briefing a bloke from Radical piped up, said if you fancy a go in one we have a couple here just come and see us...so I did.
Drove the RS1 and managed to spin off at Copse, which was bloody quick and if I hadn't got the clutch down quick enough it would have destroyed the clutch...luckily I did phew! Anyway, I highly recommend you try the RS1 if you get a chance, it's insanely quick. Best of all it was totally free, although I'm sure they were trying to sell me a racing package
What a day!
Drove a G40 a few years back at Silverstone - was one of the Junior cars and proper st myself at the end of the Wellington Straight when I got brake and accelerator at the same time in a pair of boots that weren't really ideal for the car. Recovery was quite nice though....Drove the RS1 and managed to spin off at Copse, which was bloody quick and if I hadn't got the clutch down quick enough it would have destroyed the clutch...luckily I did phew! Mark, one of the criticisms i got yesterday was coasting. So after braking, i would wait before getting on the throttle and coast into the corners. The instructor suggested that and not hitting the brakes hard enough was a good indication of a sim racer
Can you do something with the braking and acceleration graphs and work out the coasting points? I know you like a challenge!
One thing is clear IRL you stamp on the brakes in a straight line in a race car then roll off the brakes as you turn in and in normal circumstances you don't lock up. In a lot of sims stamping on the brakes even in a straight line = lock ups, which is why sim racers tend to be more gentle than required with the brake pedal in a real race car.

I think that's down to the cheap pedals on most wheel and pedal sets. A decent pedal with a strong progressive resistance is the key. My pedals are set up for about 45kg resistance. Can you do something with the braking and acceleration graphs and work out the coasting points? I know you like a challenge!

Well done Derwin on winning the last race, your handicap has been adjusted accordingly ;-)
Next race is Monza in an Aston Martin Vantage and is 1 week duration only
Thanks, felt like a bit of a fraud being up front when I was (last time I looked) well over a second behind the real times. Happy to have my handicap adjusted but will enjoy my win for now, considering it's such a rare occasion Next race is Monza in an Aston Martin Vantage and is 1 week duration only

I think I could do that, we could have a "Am I coasting?" graph. I guess basically if your acceleration and brake is 0 then you're coasting?
Here's a challenge, and I could probably do it in excel so i think it's possible (a bit like a waterfall chart)...one input line, green on throttle (or 1), blue when coasting (or 0) and red on the brakes (or -1)...Either at set values (1,0,-1) or using the input values like the current throttle/brake graphs...have a play
Coasting graph is up. I went for if throttle and brake are 0 then draw that on the graph. Because people can be using both pedals simultaneously it's not as simple as 1 for acceleration and -1 for braking because they might be 1 for acceleration whilst also pressing the brake at 0.6, and which one do you show in that scenario?
Anyway, think the graph is fine, looking at the last race it shows I am coasting a hell of a lot more than Born2BSlow, which is one of the many reasons I'm bloody miles behind him

Secret Squirrel mode wouldn't have changed it, it worked exactly as it was meant to, just a bit unusual in that you set 20 pbs within about an hour :-)
Yeah the Oreca/Catalunya combo I think I started at 1:45-ish and managed to get down to 1:38's. I find with tyre wear off just driving and trying different lines is a great way to find pace I didn't get as many laps in on the Ginetta/laguna seca combo so more to come there. The corkscrew is actually scary in vr lol
