My daughter has started playing Fortnite on the Switch.

Currently she uses the Joy-cons in the grip and i wonderd whether a proper wireless controller would be a better option? If so, whats recommended?

8BitDo are probably the best third party controllers for Switch, otherwise the official Nintendo Pro Controller really is a lovely bit of kit.

Are there any decent Switch racing games?

I mean with proper cars rather than Mario Kart and the like

Not really no, but have a nose at Art of Rally, plays really well and there's some good facsimiles of real rally cars in there, not to mention a lot of custom skins for them.

GRID Autosport is surprisingly solid, often comes up very cheap on the eShop too.

Need for Speed and Burnout have decent ports too.

Need for Speed most wanted is a fun arcade style racer but there's no proper racing games on the switch such as Forza

Wreckfest is on switch and a lot of fun. Burnout Paradise remastered too.

Horizon Chase Turbo is also good, a love letter to outrun and similar 80s classics.

I enjoy this one, but it's really not a racing sim.
Once you start unlocking cars the 'lancia stratos' gets you through a lot of races, then the 'mini cooper'finishes it off.

Circuit Superstars is great (got it on our Steam Deck, only just realised it's on Switch too).

Whilst it looks cutesy the physics are wonderful so you really have to think about racing lines etc, it's extremely satisfying when it all comes together. Tyre Deg, fuel, the track rubbering in, it's all in there so it's a surprisingly deep arcade sim.

Cheers, I’ll have a look at those. I notice there’s also some WRC games very cheap too so i might have a go at that.

Need to look at some controllers too. We bought a couple of extra Joy-Cons last year but they were cheap aftermarket jobs that have already crapped out.

Fork out £60 for another pair of official ones or look for some decent second hand chunkier wired versions?

If you don't need joycons specifically, something like the 8BitDo Pro is a great alternative.

8bitdo Ultimate is lovely, they do one for Switch with the A/B buttons the right way around.

I like their SN30 Pro for the retro games and stuff like Mario Wonder too.

Try Art of Rally as well, arcade looks but a pretty deep handling model.

I've done this before, buy and immediately delete now/whenever an offer is on, then on Christmas eve night go in and let it redownload at night.
Just some delayed closure on this, went off without a hitch. Downloaded it a week before and deleted then re did it the night before.

And he’s not been off it since!

That looks absolutely fantastic. I might buy that and steal my sons Switch to play it laugh

I've reached the Porsche Supercup now (although it's not called that, nothing is licensed), the car feels amazing to throw around and you really notice it once the tyres start to go. Love it.

Quick Question....

We got the 3 months free online thing with our new switch.

Was hoping that you got the DLC for Mario Kart with that but it seems you need to upgrade to the 'extension pack' online deal thingy to get that.

What else do you get access to with that?

A selection of Megadrive, Gameboy Advance and N64 games. Plus a couple of other game expansions.
