Assetto Corsa from Project Cars - Why am I now slow?!
Discussion
I've been playing Project Cars for a year or so on PS4 with a G29 wheel, with generally satisfactory albeit not alien lap times. I'd say with a little effort I can normally get within a few of seconds of the record times and can be competitive online, which is good enough for me...
The other day, I bought Assetto Corsa as it appears to be fairly highly regarded and was on offer on PSN for twenty quid. First impressions, it's very good! The physics seem more natural, the force feedback is much better and it just feels right. Herein begins my struggle - it may feel right but I have found in most cars on default setups I am understeering all over the place at the speeds I'd normally take corners in Pcars. I was online on Spa last night in GT class and was in a good rhythm as had slowed down corner entry speed to negate the issue and was putting in consistent laptimes. As a result of slowing down corner speed, however, I was over 4 seconds off of the pace. Mainly just curious as to how other people are taking corners much faster, as any increase on my part resulted in needing to lift due to losing front end grip.
For anybody with both, are the default setups in Assetto inclined to understeer? Is Project Cars more forgiving? Do I need to adjust my technique? Am I a tt for bothering to start a thread about my sub-par driving ability?

I found generally the default setups are less well optimised in AC, in PCars on default I can be quite competitive, AC needs tweaking.
Some cars on default in AC are set to road tyres but have semi-slick as an option as a "for instance". Gearing is usually off as well.
This is on PC but I'd assume there are the same issues on PS4.

As a few others have said:
1) Tyre Warmers are a must, retaining heat in 911 fronts can be a challenge on any circuits with long straights.
2) Not sure if console users get a tyre temp APP. If you do activate it.
3) Activate the delta App. This helps understand where you are losing time. Its against all my principles as I am seriously hamfisted; but slow in fast out is essential especially on any corner that then has a long straight following it. There are seconds hiding on those type of corners.
4) I think there is a lot to be gained with car setup. I am pretty useless at setting the cars up though! I have a few good setups for Spa and the Nurburgring on the E30 DTM and a few 911s.
5) Set brake balance as rearwards as you can, without locking the rears first. I normally do this by setting it totally Rearwards, until the rear locks first (see car tyre damage symbols/tyre temp app). Then move it forwards until they no longer lock the rears first. Then check some trail braking doesn't bring the rear round easily. If it does, forwards some more!
5) It is quite easy to overheat the rears with wheelspin on most cars, as soon as you do this it is basically lap over, as you can't exit the corners without squirming.
6) The same applies to locking the inside fronts on the brakes as well. Lap over. I try not to use ABS at all, some corners are particularly challenging with out it (Nurburgring GP 1st corner with a 911).
Having said all of that, I still struggle to follow my own advice in a desperate attempt to keep faster cars behind in an online race!! But good god, is it fun trying.

Did a little fettling today on Spa in the 458 GT2. Less understeer in this car BUT I checked my tyre temps and the fronts were almost molten! Is audible scrub a sign that I am carrying too much speed? I think my time with Project Cars has given me bad habits!
So far I am around 2.27.x, just how bad is that??
