If I remember correctly the game had excellent presentation but godawful gameplay.

In recent years the moment when the camera fades in and you find yourself actually sitting in the cockpit of an X-Wing in 'Battlefront VR Mission' is up there as one of the coolest gaming moments I've ever experienced. It just has a wow factor that stops you in your tracks.

Another recent moment is in Horizon Zero Dawn. It's during the cut scene training montage at the start of the game where Aloy finally 'grows up'. The way this is handled is very slick and well done.

Old school gaming HL1 has so many moments and firsts. Think it was the first properly intellectual first person shooter I played. Every action and lever seemed to make sense and keep you Right in the story.

Taking out Aetheon with:-

Tank
Wuddie
Tom
Silver bullet
FugitiveMind
Trash
Dalzo
Whitchcraft

And also generally any raid with people from pistonheads. Got to play with a lot of fun people over the 3 years of Destiny.

Remal shouting "look out, squirters!" in a deep West country accent whilst in the middle of a tense firefight still makes me chuckle....But i guess you had to be there smile

Bonus nostalgia clip:-

The bank heist in GTA 4. I wasn't a huge fan of the game generally but that was brilliant.
GTA4 online racing was and will remains an absolute highlight in gaming for me. Sadly, the new one totally missed to capture the same absurdity in racing.

Super Mario 64. Jolly Roger Bay. Swimming under water and discovering a sunken ship with a giant eel protecting the stars - utterly magical at the time.
This for me too.

I remember jumping into the water and thinking "This is like playing a cartoon". Stunning.

Castlevania IV on Super Famicom with the Mode 7 room was also one that blew me away.

The 1st time on an Arcade Machines - I'll never forget putting the big old 10p into Space Invaders when the Fair came to where I grew up .... nerd

So probably around 1978 - start of a love affair which to this day I still have. I do like my PS4/games on the iPad etc But none of them have the playability to beat the old arcade games. And you look at the size of the old games - 15KB in size vs. some of the new ones which have regular updates in the 2.5Gb in size .....

When I moved to London - and found the Trocadero centre (now gone) Used to go up every payday after work and spend a fair few hours (followed by KFC In Leicester Square ....)

Obvioulsy now with emulation - I can play them all for free (if you own the roms ...... wink )

Just last week setup a Raspberry Pi 3 with Retropie

Using an Xbox 360 Controller in the interim - but knocking up a an Arcade Based controller - so Sanwa Sticks/proper Arcade buttons. Plugged into/hidden by the TV in the living Room. So can have a quick blat at all games as/when it takes my fancy.

Top 5 Games:

1. Galaxian
2. Jackal
3. Track'n Field
4. Mach 3 (Laserdisc Game - but playable via emulator called Daphne) Same genre as Space Ace etc
5. Pacman

As a nerd my phones ringtone is actually the Galaxian Music ....... I think I need help wink

When on work trips to NYC - always visit Barcade - has all the old Arcade Machines - 25c a play !! (Craft beers, Arcade machines and a damn fine burger as well - heaven)

For me my coolest moment was a little more sedate. After months and months of waiting Christmas finally came around and I got Monkey Island. Literally only got given 1 game a year so this was a big deal.

Still remember the opening sequence like it was yesterday.

Just imagine how impressed you'd have been if you'd seen it on a decent PC.
