This is probably just me being a dunce and not reading the Ts & Cs correctly, but has anyone else already been charged for their pre-order in full?
Still to pre-order, but it does say that the full amount is payable immediately, so it's not just you Sims!

As for the beta, the Reddit conspiracy theorists reckon that early access to the beta will be on 7 July, and full access will commence on the 17th. To do with the amount of glimmer that one of the characters had in the reveal trailer. The other commodity was also at 98 which ties in with the release date of D2 - Sep 8th

D1 beta also dropped on 17/7/2014 too

Nice tin-foil hat conspiracy theories in there, Moog, and quite plausible ones at that!

Interesting to see that whilst PS4 Pro will offer 4k in some form or another, it'll be strictly a 30fps affair (blame the huge increase in GPU power but only modest increase to CPU apparently). Also, Bungie seemed quite happy to give thanks to Sony but made no mention of Scorpio at all. Be a hell of a coup if Scorpio's extra grunt made 60fps possible, wouldn't it?

Not that I think it likely, mind you, but my own tin foil hat is spinning!

Scorpio surprisingly has only a minor CPU advantage (vs Pro), running at 2.3Ghz. Pro is 2.1Ghz. (Original PS4 was 1.6, XB1 was 1.75)

Yeah, I know 0.2 ghz isn't a lot at face value, but if the system is as well optimised as was being reported it'll make the most of every last ounce of extra horsepower.

For the record, I certainly don't expect Scorpio to run Destiny 2 any better than a PS4 Pro does. Bungie are very unlikely to optimise the engine for a platform that less than 20% of their player base is going to use.

PlayStation has a bunch of exclusives again. This time a weapon a map and a strike.

Sigh.

Yep and that ain't good for anybody- until the exclusivity ends, the strike will not be a nightfall and will obviously not form part of the story. Gun will be decent but not top tier either.

Just a heads up that this is £39 at simplygames with the code "destiny5off" rather than the £45+ it is everywhere else. I've not yet checked to see if that includes early access to the beta or not though.

And so. The countdown begins.

Throwing my scheduling into disarray, should I take days off for the BETA or for the full game,.....

Both, and cut the holiday with the wife short? (might lend to more time to play Destiny overall).

Where to begin. First of all, Baby Flat-out - top work and many congrats thumbup Technically, you don't actually have to be there for the birth though, right? Biologically speaking I mean. Maybe She could just text you pictures periodically and you could reply once your strike or mission was finished hehe

You'll need to speak to Anton as he has somehow managed to make Parenthood mostly about playing video games - the boy is a genius!

Well congratulations but I have to say poor planning old chap, surely you should have figured September as a booked or at least "working from home"?
But anyway, lets think this through, Speckles right you do not technically need to be there or you could push for home birth, just need some judicious use of the mute button so as not to put the team off during critical play or you could remote play with a tablet from the hospital, downsides would be spotty team chat and inadvertently sharing the birth to youtube instead of an awesome grenade self immolation.

The point is lots of options when you think this through.

I just ordered from PS store, expensive, slowest downloads since Netscape but should work, right?

Looking forward to this.

Thanks guys!

Believe me, I've tried EVERYTHING to get out of being there. My angle, as genius as it was bowtie, was to be so obnoxious that she'd order me to not be there- I suggested taking along my swimming shorts and 4 tinnies for the birthing pool so I could fully immerse myself in the fun. Literally. After that, I suggested taking a go-pro on a helmet to "capture the moment." No dice- she told me to stop being a nob. frown

So, I'll have to pray and recommend that she stays horizontal during the beta. Fingers crossed. eek

Funnily enough, I thought about Anton's parenting skillz the other day! Played some Overwatch with him a few months ago but not spoken to him since. Hope he's good although no doubt we'll catch up soon. smile

Hmmm, it doesn't sound like your missus is being very reasonable about all this. You've explained to her it's the Destiny sequel and that your fireteam needs your light, right? I mean, She must know how important this is.

If She truly is a keeper, She'll hold off til after the beta, then you can get all your nappy duties done and dusted before 6th September (well, you've got to show willing for a little while, eh?) thumbup

Oh I agree. thumbup

My closing gambit on the topic was thus:-

"If you, my love, disturb my beta, the baby's name, whether a girl or boy [we don't know], will be...

CROTA"

hehe

Anyway, back to the game. Aside from the comment from one of our mutual PSN friends that "the boss looks like a giant pigeon" (hehe) all is looking well. I'm intrigued to see how snipers occupying a heavy slot will play out. Also, the devs have said that this game will be less like a job and more accessible. They must have something up their sleeves to say that whilst keeping the depth and the "one more go" essence they got so right first time around.

Fun times ahead! smile

Excited for the beta.. .of course a day later than you PS4 #fortheplayers wink

Taking it slightly OT did you all see the gameplay for Anthem? Looks very Destinyish.

I'm unconvinced about having to run a sniper in the heavy slot....but if that's the biggest issue with D2 then we'll all be having a whale of a time smile

You're right about Anthem- the "mech" that drops onto the platform near the start does look Titan-esque. Having said that, its perhaps unsurprising given that Destiny has influenced so many other games and in other genres- For Honour's 3 classes and Battlefield 1's RNG battleback drops after each round being the 2 that spring to mind. Anthem itself looks good- the water effects are stunning especially when the dude enters the lake. Fingers crossed for this. smile

The sniper thing is weird. Sniping is very situational for both PvP and PvE. Coupled with the scarcity of those purple bricks in PvE and the timer for heavy in PvP, how is it going to work? In the crucible, when heavy spawns, are you really going to want to pick up sniper ammo when others have rockets? If so, how many rounds will balance it out? Will the balance be sniping the torso as a OHK? Maybe the loadouts are now 4 weapons- 2 primary and 2 "heavy?"

Questions man, questions. scratchchin

Everyone I have spoken to so far is a little concerned about the secondary/heavy slot changes but, the general concensus from the various yootoobers who have had some hands on experience, seems to be that it works well and quickly becomes intuitive. Don't know if that convinces me yet but, we have little choice but to adapt.

Anthem looks very good but, is still a loooong way off so too early to get excited about yet. The staged banter between the players was amusing, where was all the profanity and drunken slurring?!

As you say, fun times ahead thumbup

(side note: Crota for a boy, Eris for a girl? This shouldn't be subject to an undisturbed beta, this should already have been agreed upon wink )

Got me thinking now. Some more options for a boy:-

- Valus
- Sepiks

or how about, pushing the boat out and going for a name AND title?!

"Xur the tentacled fk"

Actually, Cayde is pretty cool if a touch chavvy. scratchchin

bumping this because it's applicable to both (suppose it's all three now) communities....

So E3 hasn't gone well for D2.

From fairly minor things like the character customisation is still as poor and they're going to pretend the Exo Stranger never happened, to pretty major things like the Darkness doesn't exist, the Guided Games for nightfalls and raids (should say raid as we're only getting 1 at launch..... which I know is the same as D1, but really, I thought there might be something to get excited about on this front) are only available on it's lesser difficulties and the multiplayer has been watered down to 4v4 (and still without dedicated servers).

It really feels and looks like an expansion rather than what we all hoped, that it would be the Destiny game promised when first revealed at E3 2013.

That's even before considering the worst 'feature', which is the continuation of console exclusives. In terms of content this serves neither community. Us Xboners miss out on content while the PS4ers get exclusives that can't impact on the story to any great effect and (in terms of weapons and armour) can't be top tier equipment. It is purely marketing.

On top of that there is the bizarre situation with the Skorpio/Xbox one X (xbone X... still working on the stupid name) where they've said they can't confirm the resolution, only that it would have the same FPS as the current consoles. Graphics really aren't important to me but the interview with Deej seemed really odd, like he was uncomfortable even mentioning that Microsoft has a console. Certainly not in a positive sense anyway. He should have been prepared for that and maybe said "we're not sure yet but we'd expect it to run similar to the PS4Pro" but it seems like he has to try to put a negative spin on it.

I don't believe for a second that some of the reddit conspiracies are true and that 4k is going to be a PS4/PC Exclusive but it seems odd that this agreement tongue ties Bungie so much, or maybe its a fallout from the Microsoft - Halo days (but Bungie are practically a different company now)..... or maybe Deej just needs to get his magical suit back.

Certainly E3 hasn't increased my hype for the game but yes, I'll probably still buy it and spend a stupid amount of time on it.
