Hiding is definitely the way to go ...especialky if you are a rubbish shot like me

Although it didn't help when I was on course for a top 10 finish, laying on a roof with shotgun pointed at a door, I hear someone coming up the stairs, but he just clips through the door and kills me, bloody cheat!

Anyone know if loot stays the same for every game? If so, avoid the flooded village, I went into 5 houses with nothing found

Agree the hiding tactic works well. Almost managed a top 10 finish the other day using it.

Parachuted into what turned out to be pretty close to the centre of the safe zone, explored a couple of buildings, but didn't find too much loot. Decided to camp out in the top floor of a building with a shotgun. Sat in the corner and didn't move for about 5 minutes, until I finally heard someone moving around downstairs. As they came up the stairs a quick blast in the back, and thank you very much for all the loot smile

Repeated again a few minutes later, unfortunately had to vacate the building soon after as the safe zone shrunk further, and got taken out by a sniper while running through the trees.

Loot is random each time.

I'm also a terrible shot - too many years playing console games! Last time I played an FPS on PC properly was CS...not Go, not Source, the original!

Slowly getting better although the game mechanics are such that you don't tend to get much practice.

Yes, agreed the game mechanics don't give you much chance to practice. One area I'm still struggling on is looting other players, it feels like it takes an age to sort through their gear and I feel far too vulnerable when doing so. Given the fact my kill ratio is so low I'm not really getting much chance to work on this biggrin

There are some good "tips" videos on YouTube

I've been playing this quite a lot recently, i've not 'won' yet but have had a couple of 2nd places in solo. Only one of my friends has it so if we go for a squad match we usually end up with some gung-ho numpties who enjoy drwaing fire to my location.

You can play with just the two of you and no randoms. I find it's much easier playing with people you know.

A handy little trick for those who like to hide - crouch down in a bush and wait for someone to come to you. Whilst stationary in some of the larger bushes (the best one seems to be the taller green one with white flowers) you're nigh on impossible to see. I've had several people run right past me, and they're also great for shooting from as the targets can't see where you are. A good tactic if the zone has shrunk to an open area, although if you do get spotted you've nowhere to run or hide!

I've just started playing this with my son and thoroughly enjoying playing it. He is quite a hardened pro with shoot-em-ups

The thing about this game though is that it give people like me who aren't so quick get a chance using tactics.

he other thing I really like about this game is that normally he plays all sorts of violent games without flinching, but in this game he acts genuinely scared and jumps out of his seat when ambushed. It has a good degree of survival horror about it.

BIGGEST TIP

From my point of view is learning to switch between first and third person mode. Don't really need this in any other game, but in this game its vital. You can hide behind a rock/wall/in a room, and use the third person to spot enemies without them seeing you, but first person is much faster than aiming down sights. Remember if someone else is using third person they can see you despite the fact they are fully in cover and you therefore can't see them.

Learn to loot houses using the third person advantage to see in rooms without walking into them. If you see someone lobe in a grenade smile

Very good advice, thanks thumbup

I'm fine if laying in wait for someone, but so far I've struggled in proper 1 on 1 situations, mainly because I panic and start wildly spraying bullets rather than aiming properly. Last night I was hiding behind a rock in a standoff with someone nearby behind a tree. In 3rd person mode so could see them, but when they rushed me it took too long to sort my aim out so died. Will definitely practice switching between the 2 modes smile

Also remember to use weapons to their strengths.

Uzis, UMPs, Vectors & Shotguns are fantastic close range weapons. You actually have much more chance of winning a gun fight against people with AKs, M4s or an SKS when you're <20m/30m from them so don't overlook SMGs.

Last game last night was in rain. Never had that happen before, is it new? I only lasted 2 minutes before getting killed so didn't see what happens in the game, if it cleared.

I did well (2nd place) by grabbing a car right away and zooming off to well off the flight path and looting with ease and then going to the safe zone at the last second

From experience so far rain is occurs in around about 1 in 10 to 1 in 15 matches and lasts the entire game.

I had a top two finish last night using the supressed UMP. Looted, ran to the centre of the first circle. Waited, circle came to me, woo! Unfortunately I couldn't see my assailant, but picked up 4 on the way.

The elusive victory in solo remains.

If anyone is interested, there is PUBG Invitational (a charity livestream, where the best streamers compete) going on currently on twitch.tv/gamersoutreach. Its a good laugh and its all funds donated are going to a good cause.

Plus you get to watch the best against the best.

This looks great, fingers crossed for a quick console release, before it dies down and people stop playing

Anybody fancy getting a squad together? I've got very few friends who play PUBG, and solo makes me fantastically paranoid.

I love this game, especially when you drop right next to someone else and then have a mad panic to find a form of weapon.

I just run at them and attempt to superman punch, works a treat as they'll usually be tabbed in trying to pick up loot!

Had this for just over a week now.. Fantastic game. The tension is astonishing. Middling player I guess. Not yet had a chicken dinner but have just come second in solo. 3rd and 1st had a bit of a gun battle on the other side of the circle.. Probably should have steamed in and taken the weakened 1st place guy out rather than let him heal then stalk me.. Always next time smile

....nosuchuser.... on steam if you fancy a bit of squad play.

Cheers
