I found it easier to learnt the track fully in the dry first, and then when doing the wet challenge go more steady than you think you should. Stick to the dry line and no need to be right on the ragged edge all the way round, just put in a smooth lap and you’ll get gold

Gold?!

I'm 4 seconds off bronze and can barely get the thing all the way around the track. boxedin

It sounds daft, but slow down! You only need a smooth lap, not a full on mental one

But that's the difference between top drivers and just "good" drivers (in real life and in games) - the very best drivers can maintain that smoothness (when required) whilst still being very, very quick, whereas just good drivers cannot.

In this instance, it's about passing a test. And per above, the way to do it is to stick to the dry line and don't overdrive it.

I'm doing it thinking that steering is the problem.

I'm on a PS5 controller, which doesn't allow for smooth steering inputs, which in turn means it spins out/understeers.

I don't really want to invest in a steering wheel yet.

That was my strategy - and I'm 4 seconds adrift of Bronze drunk

All the other licence tests I've passed first or second attempt, apart from the Single-seater around Laguna Seca, which was a bit of a challenger.

This one though..........grrr.

Have you tried different controller sensitivity?

And are you using direction buttons or sticks? Or even using the pad as a wheel?

Stick some TC on if you haven’t got it on yet. Be very smooth with your throttle through and exiting. For sure is difficult and I’ve silvered it with a controller, I’ll invest into a wheel soon but it’s where to put it that’s my problem!

It's entirely possible to gold all the tests on a controller. Practice, patience and some fiddling with controller sensitivity.

Shortly after getting the PS5 I started using the tilt movement for steering rather than buttons or sticks. Once you get the feel for it you can get far more sensitivity.

I suggest doing something other than the license test for a while. Just play with it. Then come back and give it a go in a couple of days.

No....perhaps I'll give that a try

I've not done that either - does that work well? The thought of steering something not attached to anything seems odd, but I'm open to new methods smile

Stick with the stick! (Or try the motion config).

Some of the fastest drivers in the GT community use a controller, also switching to a wheel setup isn’t guaranteed to make you quicker either biggrin

If anything, a wheel slows you down at first!
It is perfectly possible to do smooth steering inputs on a controller, and as mentioned, possible to get gold on everything too.
Personally I won’t move on to the next test until I get gold

Not this again! laugh

Yeah I think this one was a piece of piss nearer launch, must've been - I certainly don't claim to be particularly good at this game, but I literally golded this test on the second time I got all all the way round, using a controller. Oh and automatic gears

I think it took me the sum total of ten minutes.

Sorry...

Done it! bounce

Used the buttons, rather than the stick, for steering.

Only a bronze, but that’ll do for now smile

It is a personal thing. I find chasing all gold to be nothing but frustrating.

Completed all license tests including the Master. All achieved with a mixture of golds and silvers.

At most I'll give it a few attempts to get gold and then move on, but I'd never spend silly amounts of time going mental trying to achieve gold like some folk. Happy with silver - must be something to do with my recent purchase of Britannia silver coins.

Ultimately the game is all about enjoyment!
