Thanks to the wonders of MS infrastructure and not being able to migrate a tag from one region to another, I now have a whole new tag so that I can actually redeem points and codes and whatnot here in the US.

Really? What happens with the old profile? That seems daft... I'll be living in the US again at some point I'm sure and would rather not lose all my progress associated with my gamertag.

You can keep the tag, you just get pointed toward the UK marketplace/dashboard. So codes for games (whether a freebie like the Halo Reach one that came with my new box) or even for points/Live, can't be used as they're linked to the marketplace in the country that they're from, if you follow me. And you can't buy anything in the UK marketplace because you have a US IP.

Luckily my gold status had lapsed on my UK account, so I haven't really lost anything financially related, plus got an extra month trial on top of the box's 3 month gold simply for creating a new account/tag.

Obviously DLC and whatnot is caput for this tag, but that's no biggie for me as I only brought three games with me anyway, and they're all bleedin' region locked

So yeah, GamerPoints & achievements are "gone", in that they're on the UK account and I'm starting from scratch on the US one.
