Well we never saw that coming did we?

Heard it on Radio 1 today that they are delaying it until November due to problems with the CD drive. It was going to be released in spring otherwise.

I was hoping and hoping that it would be released in spring, but knew there wasn't a chance in hell, as I heard so many rumours about it coming out in 2007.

I might go and buy a 360.

Expected price is around the £500 mark, and the delay will be for Japan, bank on it being about 9 months after it comes out in Japan for it to arrive in the UK (think how long it took for the PSP to arrive here after going to Japan and then America first)

Edit: Just checked on gamespot and they're now going for a worldwide launch so it will be November here too, guess I should check things before opening my gob. I'd still bank on a price tag around £500 though.

Just checked gamesradar and they are making an official announcement regarding release dates and prices tomorrow, so i'd get ready to jump onto Game and similar websites if you want to order one, as they'll probably put the pre-orders up within an hour or so of the announcement. Could be worth getting in early especially if the supply and demand issue is likely to be similar to that of the 360.

If they are thinking of releasing it in November, then this time i am going to pre-order one. and flog it for Xmas 2006. Just think an extra 500-700 quid for doing nothing.

They have said that they're trying to avoid supply issues like the 360 had, but I can't see everyone who wants one getting one, i'll be pre-ordering a few for a bit of a christmas bonus.

Of all the news I have seen on the PS3, the prices have been around the £300 mark and not £500. They are going to be trying to make the money back on the games, same as Microsoft with the 360. I don't think Sony are silly enough to charge £500, as by the time the PS3 is released the 360 will be well established.

There has been no real mention of game prices but I think they will be more than the 360 just for the fact they are using Blu Ray technology and the discs cost more in the 1st place.

Don't forget chaps that PS3 will include high def DVD output which the X-Box 360 DOES NOT HAVE.

So you've saved money buying an X-Box360, but you'll have to buy a hi-def dvd player to go with it, lets call it £250. Not looking so cheap now...

I've heard around $400, so probably around £350/£400 for us then, getting more expensive goods as always

It most definitely won't have Hi-Def DVD playback capabilities, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are lining up for a big format war (much like VHS and Betamax in the 80s) and PS3 is on the side of Blu-Ray as Sony are championing the format. The 360 will be getting a HD-DVD add on drive at some point which will allow it to play the format for games and movies, albeit at an added cost which they reckon will be around £100

I couldn't remember whether the PS3 was DVD or Bluray, so should have left it at "Hi Def". Nevertheless it still applies, you'll have to spend more on your XBox to get hidef playback, so it's hardly a bargain compared to the PS3.

But I don't use my PS2 or 360 (or the XBox before it) for DVD playback. I use a dedicated DVD player which outperforms them. I'll do the same by buying a dedicated BluRay or HD-DVD player once it is clear which one of the formats has legs.

People always quote the PS2 as having a big effect on the take up of DVD, but I think places like Tescos selling cheap Wharfedale DVD players at around the same time had more to do with it. The jump in quality from DVD->High Def is not as great as VHS->DVD and requires people to upgrade their TVs to get the benefit. I really don't see BluRay as being a major factor in the popularity of the PS3. The majority of Sony's games console customer base won't care.

I beg to differ. Most people cannot afford to have two seperate devices. An all in one device is always preferred by the majority of consumers, especially as DVD will be extinct in the next few years. Audio and visual quality of the PS3 is supposedly significantly better when playing stuff other than PS3 games, when compared to the PS2's CD/DVD playback. I mean that relatively (obviously blu ray is higher quality than DVD etc)
