I always find the beginning of the course the hardest but about a 5th of the way round its footdown action all the way.

I tried it on the arcade mode with the RUF Yellow Bird, its so twitchy!

My best time was in the Audi RS6 Avant, that was when I first got the game though, I never recorded the time.

We're talking about GTL, Bullit_Rich.

I've updated my original post to include a link to the track download page (the version I used, beta 0.9).

Goodness gracious. And here's me aiming for < 11 minutes.

Jungles - I'm struggling to run the download from that link you have posted. I nget the loading screen and then GTL just shuts down. The post on RSC refers to deleting files from 'The Mother' Is this an earlier version of the 'ring that has to be installed first?

You need to change your 'DX' version in the GTL Configuration thingy...

Start> All programs > 10tacle Studios > GTL > Configure GTL

Then Change the Shader Level, mine works on DX9, but I think DX8 works too

Ah, that figures. It is set to 7 at the moment I think (another PH top tip for smoother running) I'll give it a go in the morning and report back - posting from the laptop now and can't be bothered to fire up the PC.

They are in reference to any earlier versions of The Mother you may have installed.

Also, you need to use DX8 or DX9 for your Shader Level (check using the Configure GT Legends applet). Some people also report problems running with AI cars.

Need a wheel
A lot of practice on the Ring will help, I still could do with learning it a bit better..
Try it with the 906 then with the slower cars, you'll soon get it spot on

A wheel would be a good idea. I've got an old one that no-one seems to want through the classifieds and was going to suggest you could have it for nowt of you wanted to come and get it - then I looked at your profile

11m 04.9s ... Improving as slowly as the Cortina's acceleration.

Thanks for the offer, Doug.

10m 43.1s

Finally broke the 11 minute mark!

And a little bit of help for those attempting the fastest lap... a link to a website detailing the ideal racing line around the Ring. It's written for motorcylists, but the lines apply to most cars too: www.team-tschauder.de/nring/n-ring1e.htm

(Settling into a late apex turn-in into Kleines Karusell - aka. Schwalbenschwanz - ready for the long right-hander that follows onto the huge straight section)

Yep, I've only got Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 and a laptop isn't the best thing for playing games on, as I found out with Doom3. So its the best I can do.

But same track (it the only track I go on) , just different way of playing it.

Since I missed tonights Ferrari race, I thought I'd give this a go.

Ford Cortina - 9m48.2s - www.mercia.biz/GTL/Ring-FWD-9m48-2s.Vcr

Missed a few apexes and cursed a lift here and there instead of flat, default setup & gears so on the rev limiter in many places.

Did the DX8 thing and it worked all be it with a painfully slow frame rate at times - down to 15 on the run down the back of the pits. Managed a 10:55 in the Cortina with a spin. A bit more practice needed I think.

The FPS really hampered me, but it can be fixed by doing the following:

Go to the directory for TheMother: [GTL Directory]GameDataLocationsTheMother
Find the file called TheMother.trk
Open TheMother.trk using Notepad.
Find these lines:

View=mainview
{
Clear=True
Color=(20, 20, 30)
Size=(1.0, 1.0) Center=(0.5, 0.5)
FOV=(77.75, 62.50)
ClipPlanes=(0.1000, 30000.00)
View=rearview
{
Clear=True
Color=(56, 53, 51)
Size=(512.0, 256.0) Center=(256.0, 128.0)
FOV=(62.5, 62.5)
ClipPlanes=(0.1000, 10000.00)
}
}

Change the valued highlighted in bold, to 3000.00 and 1000.00 respectively. They specify the maximum viewing distance. The default values are extremely large and unnecessary, slowing down the FPS.
