I see your point but I've found myself bored with the current crop of games, nothing new really seems to be coming along? The last big push IMO was when Live came out for the Xbox, it gave all the games so much more depth and playability.

Nice graphics true, but not worth the asking price at the moment IMO.

I agree totally - my wife was gonna buy me one for Xmas, but once I totted up how many games I'd actually want to play, there were only 3! Spending all that money for the sake of 3 games was a complete no-no, especially as I could buy Oblivion for my PC for less than £25, whereas on the 360, its double the price! And what about Far Cry, less than a tenner for the PC now, but still £50 for the console!
For console games, I have in the past 2 years bought two, GT4 and Tomb Raider Legend - most games are seemingly aimed at the teenage market still, trouble is, a lot of the best PC titles are now being 'dumbed down' for console porting, Deux Ex 2 being a prime example.
Game consoles are great, but the proces for both the hardware and software are getting to be a little silly (although I do remember Steetfighter 2 costing over £30 for the Mega Drive!)

But whats the point?

All the Xbox 360 and PS3 offer at the moment is the same games with fancy graphics.

OK, the online part should be improved but thats about it IMHO

You can say that for any incarnation of console though. I went back and played Metal Gear Solid 1 (originally released on PS1) at the weekend and it's shocking compared to MGS3.

There will always be people (like me) who want the latest version.

Coupled with the fact that I've been wanting to buy a media centre PC for the past 6 months and both XBox 360 and PS3 should offer me eveything I need at approx half the price of a decent specced media center.

Be careful, the 360 won't play movies from anything else but a media centre. Even WMV files cannot be played from a cd or dvd.

I would get the 360 and also spec up a cheap pc and put media centre on it.

I have an Athlon 800 overclocked to 1200, 256Mb RAM, 80Gb HDD and a GeForce 4200 card connected to my 360 and it streams video, music and pictures brilliantly. Just need a tv card for it now.

My kid brother has an XBox 360 and it refuses to load Project Gotham Racing without being rebooted at least 12-15 times. He changed the game and it still did it so presume it must be a fault with the console, though he never did get around to returning it.

He should return it, well within his consumer rights to get a like for like replacement from the shop he bought it from, or at the very least return it to microsoft for a replacement, remind him to remove the HDD though otherwise he'll get a new one back and lose any saved info on it.
