After watching all episodes of Sopranos series 5 over the weekend I fancy some Mafioso action on the Playstation and am intrigued by the new Godfather game. Anyone played it? Is it any good?

I've heard its similar in style to GrandTheftAuto which can only be a good thing...

Have only read about it thus far and it's a fairly pale imitation of the GTA series, but then what isn't? probably worth a rental but questionable at full price.

Interesting, Gamespot gives it an 8.1 and there are some ok reviews (if you filter out what the Kidz(sp) are saying in their God awful mix of poor grammar and text speak!)...

Might take a flyer on it - can always trade it back in for minimal loss if it's poor.

Very similar is the game 'Mafia' (http://uk.gamespot.com/ps2/action/maf which I bought about 2 years ago and enjoyed. It's based in the 1920's and was obviously meant to be the GTA style Italian gangster game before the Godfather game was created.

did notice the "Mafia" game today as it happens.

Ended up buying Godfather from Gamestation for £24.99 second hand so will report on what its like... If its rubbish I'll trade it in against something else next time I'm in there, and hopefully wont loose out too much.

I got it and thought it was pretty good ,the only problem was I got really far into it and my brother saved over my game so I couldn't be bothered starting again

Rentwed it out with a mate one Saturday night, and stayed up till about 5am playing it solidly. If you know the film well, then there are lots of good tie-ins.

Not sure about the controls, but plays well and looks good. Very much like GTA but they've left out bits that don't work and put in new bits that do work. Over all I was more impressed with it than GTA:SA.

Having said all that, I'm on my own about The Getaway 2 - so maybe take all that with a pinch of salt

I got this last month. Enjoyed playing on it. Yes it is a poorer rip off from GTA, the driving is pants, buts its quite a good story line. Although can be a bit annoying driving from one side of the map to the other to try and get all the business's

Its easier to come back to than GTA, its not as in depth, however once completed ( as I have) I can't imagine picking the game up again.
