yes, I mostly play it online. It is much more exciting as the AI are just so unpredictable. Alliances you form with other (human) players mean so much more too. I have no qualms about attacking an AI that I am allied with but won't do the same to another human player.

Yeah, one of the best games I had was a 2v2 team game. The sides were separated by ocean, but when we finally went to war we had some really great organised battles. You just don't get that with an AI game.

I was thinking of getting this for my wife's laptop. Would she be able to play with 1GB ram, 1.73 intel cpu, and an intergrated Intel graphics chip, using 128 MB of shared memory?
(she likes the looks and sounds of the Rome Total War game I play, and asked if there was something similar for her)

apparently...

Min Spec
Windows 2000/XP
1.2GHz P4 or above
256MB RAM (Win 2000) 512MB RAM (XP)
1.7GB Hard Disk Space
64MB Video Card

Recommended Spec
Windows 2000/XP
1.8GHz P4 or above
512MB RAM
1.7GB Hard Disk Space
128MB Video Card

but it does get resource heavy as the game moves on and gets more and more complicated so the more memory & speeed the better.
You realise though, that if you get this game you won't see your wife for the next 6 months at least?!

I've got the following spec:-

XP
1.7Gig (equivalent speed) Athlon
512k RAM
Plenty of hard-drive space
64k graphics card

...and it REALLY doesn't like it. Not sure what needs updating most, probably graphics card. Which is frustrating as Civ doesn't NEED to be graphics-intensive, it's all about the gameplay...and I CAN'T play it!!!

Wonder if it's a driver issue you have, rather than hardware. If you haven't already, it would be a good idea to trawl the net for latest drivers for your GPU and other hardware - that game should work OK, especially if you have a dedicated graphics card.

I remember playing with a friend on Empire Earth, we got a 24 pack of Stella in and settled down for an epic night of dualling.

Got up to go for a wee, and instantly collapsed on the floor - I'd been drinking solidly for over 6 hours and not realised I was completely trollied

hahaha yeah i've had a couple of good drunk games. i made an 'alliance' with someone. which i broke after about 5 pints. he got understandably annoyed, but was ok once i explained that i had no choice - the beer had made me crazy and reckless

Eh how do you play online?

Is it like watching the AI take their moves, slow and boring, or does it work differently PvP?

In a normal online game you all take your turns at the same time. Some people are a bit slow so you can end up waiting for them. The games tend to be set up with time limits per turn which start at about 20-30 seconds on faster settings, but in modern times where a lot is going on, they go to about 2 minutes.
Before playing I wasn't sure it would work, especially with combat. But it seems pretty good. There are a whole bunch of other 'gametypes' where it works differently but requires more effort to set up. Don't know about them though.

Multiplayer is much better fun than singleplayer though. It can take longer but its a much more interesting game. And people whine/laugh a lot more when they have their nation destroyed.
