Combat is ok, Driving mechanics are crap, such a blatant rip off of GTA that they should surely be paying royalties. GTA4 really has nothing to worry about. Much preferred the Dead Rising demo myself.

Would love to mate but I haven't got a 360 and I haven't got broadband at home. Looking to right those two wrongs soon though.

Was just wondering what it's like, from the videos it looks like an unadulterated GTA rip-off but I don't mind seeing as those games are my favourites, just so long as they don't screw it up.

It most definitely is an unadulterated rip off, but it's still pretty good, as mentioned the combat is great, bursting into a crack house with all guns blazing is good fun, so is the last mission in the demo where you're tasked with taking out 3 enemy leaders in the middle of a turf war. You seem to be a lot tougher than in GTA so can take more shots which leads to a much more action packed time rather than the fairly tactical gun play of GTA where you were always worried about survival. Hand to hand is also a bit more in-depth than the GTA games so far with combinations possible.

The driving however is mediocre at best. All of the cars are far too twitchy but after the initial shock of that they are reasonably easy to drive, even the RWD ones however are impossible to drift in any way, seeming more like front wheel drive cars that turn on a sixpence. GTA had the car handling nailed, delicious little slides were possible in some of the powerful supercars and even driving the beat-up old 70's cars was like jumping into an episode of Starsky and Hutch. Saints Row has none of this goodness and I can't see anyone stealing a car just to go on a drive in it because it really is that bland, driving will simply be a means of getting from A to B.

agree about the handling, though I read it is being improved for the release version.

Make sure you clear the cache memory when booting up your 360 for a smoother game. (keep finger on A while machine is starting up)

Overall I really liked it. The combat is far better that GTA (which I always though was pathetic (except teh pc version)).

Plus the ragdoll effects from crashing into other car users ,especially convertible cars, are hilarious.
