Xbox 360 magazine..comes with a demo of saints row

Very much like GTA but i cant tell if its any better or not. I guess the online part about it is quite interesting. The graphics seems smoother and more detailed.

Any thoughts?

As i've mentioned elsewhere, in the demo (at least the one on the XBox live marketplace) the driving is pants. All of the cars handle like fidgity boats, far too eager to change direction to start with totally lacking in any sort of progressive steering. Then if you want to power round a corner you can't as they don't seem to understand such things as oversteer, forcing you to use the handbrake instead. It's tried so hard to copy GTA in every other aspect and mostly achieved it's goals as the combat is generally good, just that god-awful driving is nowhere near the class set by the GTA games. People have said it will be fixed for the final release so we can live in hope.

edit: I'm sure it will be a good game, whether i'll want to steal a flash car and go for a drive like I did in San Andreas is questionable (crap handling again...) and it will certainly do as a next-gen appetiser before the banquet begins in earnest next Autumn when Grand Theft Auto 4 arrives and forces us to put another notch in our belts of gaming pleasure.

having played it a bit more, one thing is certainly better...interaction with the people of the city.

You seem to be able to start some great fights and chases by attacking or robbing them.

Downloaded the demo. Played it a bit.

Didn't like it much to be honest.

I've pre-ordered this having only read reviews on it. Not played any demos but i'm not expecting it to be as good as GTA. Fact is i love to drive around cities and cause mayhem and i don't fancy waiting over a year for GTA before i can unleash mayhem using my 360. So in the mean time this game will do for whenever i feel like getting in a car and shooting people!

It's ok but there are no bikes and no planes (not to mention tractors, combine harvesters, golf buggies etc ), so not going to be as much fun as San Andreas.

I'll definitely be buying it as a fill in until GTA next year.

Just a couple of days until release!!! Hopefully mine will arrive tomorrow.

If any of you guys buy it and want to meet up for an online rumble (possible from what i've heard???) then add me. Gamertag: je33a

Finding Saints Row to be a little boring. Lacks the character of a GTA game. Ho hum, will soldier on.

i dont quite get this "lacks character" suggestion...its not just you, a couple of mags have said similar things...one even saying "it lacks the intelligence of gta".....its virtually the same game, but with better graphics and explosions.

ive been playing this for the last few hours, and I think its really good. Graphics seem far better than the demo.
It is an utter clone of GTA, so it cant be bad!

I think its a good game, the free-roaming isn't as good as GTA (lacking vehicle variety and interesting scenery) but the missions themselves are a lot better. Strafe aiming is also a lot better than the silly target locking system of GTA.

Bought this yesterday and I'm about 20% of the way through, I've stormed the los carnales dude's mansion but there's no more carnales missions, only strongholds...

It's a decent enough game and the robberies, hostage taking, insurance fraud and ho' stealing really do make it fun, but I don't like this whole idea of do a mission, lose respect, take a few hostages, gain respect, do a mission, lose respect and so on and so forth... It's like you spend all your time doing pointless side missions to gain respect to progress in the game...

Still, TDU is on pre-order and I might buy dead rising if I see it in the shops...

I feel it's worth a play. I've not had much of a chance to play it and when i have been playing it, i've just been having fun getting involved in police chases (even if they do give up a little to easily) etc but i've done a couple of missions. It appears that the game won't take long to complete as after just a couple of missions i'm already 6% through!!
Shame that cars disappear as quickly as they appear! You certainly can't cause any huge pile ups.

The police (FBI) are insane at 5 stars wanted level.

Seems this game gets better the more you play it, i did feel a bit dissapointed at first, i think the problem is the entire game is virtually unlocked from the get-go, unlike in GTA where you had to play missions to gain access to new areas/weapons and activities.

Your respect stacks, so you could do several full-bars worth of activities before beginning the missions. A little X1, X2, etc symbol appears near your respect bar to show you how much has been stacked.
