Sorry - I know this is a re-post, but I couldn't find the original and the search didn't return any threads.

I bought it Monday night and finished downloading it Tuesday morning, so I was excited about playing it last night. I got home sorted myself out and sat down to play at about half seven... And by quater to midnight, I'd finished it! That's just shocking! Ok, I played on normal, not hard and some of the bits were difficult. But it was too predictable and apart from the dark bits, nothing new. Quite dissapointed really - maybe Episode 2 will be better, and maybe even have a trip to Xen...
BUT for the 24 dollars I paid for it, plus the electricity with wear and tear on the PC, I'm not best pleased at being able to finish it in just over 4 hours!

I was bored of it after an hour or so.

Episode 2 looks much better value, and besides, its got the new Team Fortress2 which looks a blast.

That's the whole point with it though that it's short, in the surveys they have taken only a small percentage of people finished HL2 and not many more finished all of episode 1. The idea is that they release short intense episodes like this quite often rather than forcing you to wait 2 or more years for a full game, it also means they can experiment with ideas that may not pay off in a full game but could work quite well in a small episode.

4 hours is about the optimum time for finishing it for a good gamer.

And you have to be joking about going back to Zen right?

Why not? I know Zen wasn't the best part of the game, but the variaty it offered was a nice change of pace. I'd quite like to see some of the old enimies back too - what's happened to the dogs and the big guards? It was all a bit too humainsed for me.

People haven't finished it? I can sort of see they wouldn't finish HL2 - it's big and needs a lot of dedication to get through it, but EP1?? Oh well, I guess they're a business trying to make money rather than big games that the masses get bored of, and lowest common denominator always works

Zen was guff and the only bad thing about the original Half Life, just didn't fit with the rest of the story, the dogs, striders and mini-striders in episode 2 are all from the same family so you will be seeing them again (sort of) in the next episode.

Cool - I also thought we may see the tank-like things you get a glimpse of as you're trapped in the stalker carrier going to the top of the citadel.

Also wasn't sure what that big fat flying thing was that makes your vision go red and Alyx freak out as you go back in to contain the reactor and you see again as the train leaves. They didn't seem to cause me any damage, just an anoyance

It wasn't the only bad thing; remember The Big Stupid Yellow Teleporter Puzzle?
