Which one would you prefer? Personally, I'd prefer the Nintendo, because I like the idea of the motion sensor controller. I'd just like to know some opinions on which one you guys think will be better.

Yep PS3 has motion sensing. But they've dropped vibration from the controller. And it looks identical to the PS1/2 controller too.

Tough one to call and i'll probably end up getting both. Not for the consoles themselves but the fact I simply have to play Zelda and Metal Gear Solid.

Lack of the vibration could be a pain for any new Gran Turismo game!

Zelda is a great game, that's why I'm buying the Wii.

Well it kind of does, but it feels very much like a last minute add-on by Sony and lacks the versatility of the Wii. For the PS3 controller, imagine hold a DualShock2 in your hand and then tilting it in different directions, there's no way I can foresee using that for a First Person Shooter like you can with the Wii. Many people that have used the PS3 controller said that after playing with its tilting, they returned to the standard controls as they felt more precise.

Anyway, to answer the original question, I'll be getting both, but neither straight away. None of Sony's or Nintendo's launch titles appeal to me except for Zelda (which I can play on my Gamecube). In fact, I find myself totally lacking in passion for this next generation

I think this little video sums up the battle quite well

Yes, it's a repost and yes, it's a Wii advert but I think it's pretty much spot on.

Different markets I think.

Wii is aimed more at younger gamers I think, as most Nintendo consoles have been for a while.
PS3 is more of an entertainment hub than a pure console, so it's hard to compare.

For my money I'd have a PS3 in the first instance for gaming by myself and online gaming, but I wouldn't rule out a Wii for more instant pick up and play post pub fighting with your mates shenanigans.

I have to admit I've been feeling that way towards games in general. For several generations most consoles have been nothing more than the most powerful gFX module money can buy slapped in to a box. The endless churn of first person shooters that seem released on all platforms (and therefore make use of the full capabilities of none) or games that can be released on the PC not appearing even though it would be an utter stonker of a title.

Where are the Dune 2's, the F-19 Stealth Fighters, the NeverWinter Nights (yes, Dragon Age and NWN 2 are comming but you get my point), the Wing Commanders? In short... Where are the trailblazers? The only two games I am actually looking forward to are Portal and Spore both of which at least bring something new to both the 'god game' and 'FPS' arenas.

The worst thing that ever happened to computer games was, ironically, them becomming popular and thus big business. Big businesses generally like safe options, they increase the layers of management and often reduce the conditions of those doing the complex task of making the game. I miss my £50 Microprose game that had a keyboard overlay, thick manual, world maps and heavy hard stock boxes... I even miss the Ultima games and their plastic trinkets and cloth maps. These days I buy a triple A title and I get this crappy plastic DVD thing, a waffer thing manual stuffed inside and a sensation of being ripped off.

As to which console I will be buying, it depends. It depends on how much of the old NES, SNES, Megadrive games the Wii eventually gets and how much per download. If it gets bugger all and the cost is lots then the honest answer is: none.

Wii isn't aimed totally at younger gamers, neither was the Gamecube. It's aimed at the "quickie" market, those who just want to snatch a controller and beat up their mates after a few beers. I suspect it will launch with a 'party' game avaliable. Nintendo have, at least tried, to ditch all the media hub stuff and just put out as near to a pure games machine as the market will take.
Sony have played the features card for all they are worth to rather explosive results and Microsoft have gone 'middle of the road' 360 has plenty of features but also has the pick up and play aspect.

Monkeyball is one of the most amazing and addictive games ever on Nintendo!

Playstation 3, Nintendos are just too immature, some of the games are good for a laugh when you're drunk with your mates, but other than that I find them boring. The Playstation will have a huuuuuuge multitude of games, as its predecessors did, so it'll be able to please most people. The only problem is that the PS3 will be expensive.

Without wishing to start a flame war, I found the original Xbox to be better in every way to the PS2, games aside (this is a matter of preference). And I owned both. Especially if you upgraded the hard drive, and especially if you used Live.

Ok time for me to come out of the gaming closet

I have owned and used loved and hated all most all of the consoles available in this country for a while.

I am looking forward to the wii its not a media centre but it is a console and I think its going to be great. It’s the first console that when talking to non gaming friends think it sounds cool have a look at some of the vids on the web of people playing and tell me it does not look fun.

Also all the back catologe of games will be great

Something like Goldeneye on the N64 equivelent on the wii and I will be in haven

Yes I will buy a ps3 as some point but not for a long time.

I'll second that, the xbox took me by surprise, having had hundreds of prior unfortunate experiences with m$ products.
