I have heard people moaning about Sony and the PS3 for various reasons.
I have seen the advert they produced that may force Microsoft to take them to court.
I remember everyone being upset at the stuff that Sony cd's installed on your PC.

But this has annoyed me more. This is probably one of the most well known sites on the
net for import gear etc.I have used them many times and they were superb.

Can someone explain this to me, as I don't know the full backstory.
All I see is a small company that did stuff that a HUGE company didn't like and got bent over for continuing to annoy the HUGE company?

Sony has used this as an excuse imho to simply shut down one of the most
popular importers.
This way Europeans will have no choice but to pay more for the PS3 (playstation 3)

I don't think Sony has the bottomless pit full of money many think they do.Sonys skin
appears to be a little wrinkled from treading water at the swimming baths for so long, so they are
relying on the PS3 lifeguard to yell "blu-rays please leave the pool".

Many will understand Sonys reasons of course, but it has left a bitter taste in many mouths.
I just think it's a shame they have forced this company to close its doors and it will be
interesting to see the effect this has on sales.

Basically Sony were pissed that Lik Sang were selling Japanese / US hardware to the EU cheaper than the same items cost in the UK. Nothing new there then. To 'eradicate' this problem Sony, a Japanese company, took Lik Sang, a Hong Kong based company, to the London High Court. The High Court ruled in favour of Sony and have basically made it illegal to import PSP's into the EU from the Far East. However, as this has set a precedent the likelihood is that ALL importers will be subject to these rules. Sony plan to do the same to prevent Jap / US PS3's being imported from the Far East into the UK as well.

As a result Lik Sang are quote possibly closing down.

If ever you wanted a good example of corruption and screwing the populace over this is it. Since when has it ever been illegal to order goods from abroad? These aren't cruise missile systems or hard drugs, they're handheld consoles!!!

I've ordered from them before. Good people and this is such a shame. Sony move another notch down on my scale.

Great example of Sony disregarding the marketplace and the will of the consumer. Personally I love the way that the importer pointed out the members of the Sony board who had had products shipped
I will not buy Sony digital products, and havent for a few years now. Would boycott the films, but they make quite good ones

This is very out of order. I have used Lik-Sang for about 6 years now and they have been great. Another reason not to buy a PS3 methinks

This was due to Sony's lawsuite to stop them imprting PS2/PSP/PS3 to uk.

Sony try to control to much of the market. thsi place in the market wouldn't exist if SCEE didn't insist staging launches across the glode. I think for the PS3 they are selling in Japan & States within 1 week in November, and Europe (The 2nd biggest games market) in february. if they can't lanuch the product worldwide then wait until they can. Microsoft did a worldwide launch close together and heypresto, they didn't have the import problem with the XBOX360 (Yes they had supply problems but thats not the point)

I used Lik Sang years ago but since Play.com got so cheap haven't returned. It's still a shame that this has happened, Sony UK acting like some spoilt child.

Sony Japan must bee peed off, all those Lik Sang exports must have made their sales figures look good.

The problem is, now that Sony have had this ruling in their favour, the likes of Play-Asia, Yes-asia and all those other importers face similar problems

So basically I was right then? Small company annoyed large multinational, got slapped in to oblivion by army of well funded drone lawyers. Personally every company on the planet would love to see the Grey inport market removed, along with the second hand resale markets. Nobody in the corporate world is actually going to say Sony over stepped the mark; they've just done something nobody else had the gumption to do.

I never brought from Lik-Sang but I do understand they had a lot of useful gadgets for consoles that you couldn't redily get outside HK/Japan, so in that respect I'll miss them.

Indeed.. Couldn't this restriction be seen as a form of price fixing?
