True Crime: New York City

I've just bought this as it's started to hit the 'bargain bin' now and thought it would be worth a punt.

However I can't tell you if it's worth it yet, as it won't start! Every time I try, I get the "encountered an error and needs to close" message. Having looked around it seems this game is notoriously glitchy, but I can't find any patches or fixes on the web. My PC should be good enough according to the guidelines, and I've tried running it with as little graphics as possible, but no luck.

Anyone have any ideas, or able to point me in the right direction?

I had the LA version on the PS2 and I found it entertaining at first, but gradually a poor GTA clone.
Worth it for some bargain bin fun, but not worth it at full price I think.
