Just a quick comment to add from me (please correct me if I am wrong)

I was deciding between the PS3 and XBox 360. We recently bought a 1080p HD TV and my wife wanted to watch HD films. I was going to go for the PS3 as you can watch bluray films.

I was swayed by the chap in GAME that said I could download HD films on the XBox via Live. After buying the XBox, I have noticed that you can only download standard definition films or 'hire' and stream HD films. Quite annoyed at that to be honest as I wanted at least one or two HD films to be downloaded onto the massive XBox 250 GB hard drive.

The 360 is still an amazing console though, but I might also have to buy a Bluray player for HD films.

Took the plunge this weekend and got a XBox 360 and Kinect.

The best deal I could find was 4GB console with Kinect Sensor, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Dance Central for £289 at Currys/PCWorld.

This game package was the most complete I could find, for me the only thing missing was Forza 3. Currys were selling this at £39.99 but we managed to talk the shop assistant into a price match with Game where FM3 is listed for just £13 even though Game didn't have any in stock!

The 4GB machine should be enough as I am not a heavy gamer and don't intend on using the console as a media centre (music and film downloads). There is always the option of plugging a USB stick in the back for extra capacity.

The Kinect games are great fun (I ache everywhere today) and a brief look at Forza 3 suggests it will exceed my expectations.

Just off to take the PS2 down the Games Exchange...

Not much help now, but might remind you in the future to check web prices:

Amazon have the 4GB 360 with Kinect, Kinect Adventures, one old game and one out of a host of other games (including Kinect Sports) for £235.

Kinect Dance central is £32 on the site.

So you could have had all of what you bought, plus either Crackdown 2 or Alien Wake for £267, saving you £22 and giving you an extra game.

Forza 3 Ultimate Edition is £12 there too.

I should have said that MrsRC had a 'want it now' head on so web/mail order wasn't an option in my case.

Thanks anyway.

On a side note, coming from PS2 and GT 4 I am delighted with the Xbox 360 and Forza 3. The graphics are superb, engine sounds are far superior, the handling/physics is very realistic, AI is much more acceptable and it is nice to be campaigning in a new racing world rather than doing GT all over again.

I haven't played Forza 3, in fact I haven't played any games for several years despite being a big fan of the N64, PSOne and PS2. I took the plunge with the PS3 and GT5 at Christmas and have been playing it pretty much ever since for at least an hour a day. It's a truly awesome game, beside the obvious visual differences (driving as the sunsets and fireworks go off on the horizon is amazing) what struck me the most about it was the level of detail in the track surfaces.

Whereas in GT4 and before the tracks were pretty much smooth gradients that flowed around the circuits, in GT5 there is much more texture to them with lumps and dips all over the place, just as on real life circuits.

Does anyone know anything about how easy it is to hack/cheat on either PS3 or 360?

The reason I ask is I play COD quite a bit online on a 360 and have never come across a hacked lobby.

First time I played it on PS3 I came across one and a mate of mine says he finds them quite often too.

For me (as a predominantly online gamer) it has to be the 360. More than happy to pay the £25 a year for XBL.

As for the better graphics we've had GTA4 on both consoles, indentical tv's etc side-by-side. If I had to choose (and being really picky) the PS3 slightly took it on graphics (but less of a difference than say 720p->1080p). Interestingly though the draw rate on the 360 was miles better!

Have had my elite for 5 years and NO reliability issues as of yet. I think a lot of the RROD must be caused by laying it down on carpet etc. Mine is sat on top of a VCR which has a vented top so cooling is fine.

Says someone who hasn't got a fricken clue. Ignore this advice, he's probably just pissed off that his account and details have been stolen from the 'superior' PS3 network, nice own goal Sony smile

Most retarded statement I've seen in this thread.

Also, the PS3 is NOT the console for you if you take gaming seriously.

Why not? I have both PS3 and Xbox 360 so interested in your reasoning.

Anyone know of any decent bundles coming up for the 360 over summer?

Just wait as long as you can - the price of 360s have been dropping like a stone since the launch of the slim, just like the prices of the non-slim were dropping like a stone before it.

Dropping you say? What is the reason?

Economics, I would imagine.

OK...broadly speaking I suppose so, what I was getting at is if there is something new on the horizon? Drop the price of the old kit to shift it before the new kit arrives?
On my bundle point, I remember a red 360 to go with a zombie game, is there anything on the horizon similar if you know?

I am considering get a Wii for my daughters 7th birthday, with the bonus that I can then play Mario Kart. Whats the difference between a Wii White and Wii Black? And the difference between a motion plus remote a Remote pLus controller, oh and the classic controller?

Time to complete my console collection and buy a PS3. Aside from the obvious capacity, is there any difference between the 160 and 320 versions?

And then there is Zelda!biggrin
I think there is no physical difference in hardware, but I do prefer the black one for ascetic reasons.
The motion plus is meant to be more accurate and it slightly larger. My old white wii has the old ones, the one I bought for my (ex)gf was the black one with the bigger controllers, just get the bigger ones, why buy old kit? Your daughter should love it!

Seems the new ones are the same size, but my exes was bigger, and I have seen the add ons for the old controllers, either way I bought this.biggrin

So I have a gold onebiggrin
Wish I had this!

It would match my GOW3 360biggrin
