Which console is right for me
Discussion
Having both 360 and ps3
My problems have been:-
Ps3 died 3 days short of a year. Got a replacement in store. new one hasnt put a foot wrong.
changed the hdd in my PS3 from 60 to 320 for €50
In Ireland RTE player is avail on PS3 not 360
My 360 controller is getting a little fooked but i guess thats to be expected
its alredy mentioned in here that a new one isnt cheap
the 360 is loud! and can get hot hence reliability issues
GT5 v Forza 4 (this is pistonheads right?) Tough one. I have both and play forza mostly due to the horrendous load times involved in GT5, in saying the the online experience in Forza can be bad at times.
PS3 accepts my bluetooth dongle/wireless keyboard and mouse which is great for internet and entering text compared to up up right right right down press and then start all over again on the 360.
My 360 has a small Hdd i think 16gb so since buying battlefild 3 i cant play MW3 or forza 4 (some cars only) until i buy a bigger hdd a problem i hope i will never have on my ps3. which also plays more file formats of your OWN PERSONAL VIDEOS than the 360.
Peace out.

Xbox Kinect continues to amaze everyone I show it to. The fact that there are no controllers with ice cream balls on top or wrist straps to fumble with adds a level of unique credibility to the system as it is clear that your whole body affects gameplay.
Forza 3 has plenty of oversteer and more realistic engine notes. Use of an original Microsoft wheel and pedals is great fun.
I had Playstations for 10 years but do not miss them at all.

Sorry to dig up an old thread. I'm thinking of changing my phone and looking at possibly getting one with a games console bundle. I'm a bit rusty on my consoles but I've heard of reliability issues on the PS3 but apparently the slimline has less issues which comes with the tariff. Now to compare with the Xbox 360, I've got a bit of a disgruntlement with Microsoft (I like linux and android) but i shouldn't let that cloud my judgement when it comes to phone and consoles i suppose.
So i'm more a fan of Gran turismo and an android phone on the PS3 slim but would i be better off on the impressive looking Forza and a microsoft phone and games console? Subjective i know.... Thanks.

Well technically the new consoles are just consol-ised gaming PC's.. So its much more effective to just buy a nice powerful gaming PC that can be upgraded in the future
All the new gen console games that are said to be exclusive will eventually find their way to PC as it is based on PC architecture anyways..

Except if you're new to PC gaming to get the power of a new generation console in a PC you'd most likely spend northwards of £600 for the unit and then you have a decent keyboard and mouse to purchase and tbh a new monitor as most consoles would be played on a main telly not conducive to PC gaming. All the new gen console games that are said to be exclusive will eventually find their way to PC as it is based on PC architecture anyways..
One of the niggles of the Steambox is the confusing array of machines you can access Steam through.
Forbes posted an article saying the biggest barrier to the uptake in Steamboxes is the number of machines claiming to do the same thing all of which retial through different sources with different prices. Console consumers have got use to there being limited hardware choice and it simplifies the process.
Have you thought about current gen consoles? I know this is a fairly old thread but my only concern with buying old gen stuff now is the fact they're soon to become dead platforms. Sure you could get legs out of past games but I reckon you'd soon regret it.
I bought a PS4 close to release, was a big outlay but that's the sort of sacrifice you've got to make if you want to be an early adopter. That's the only con I've experienced so far though. It runs quiet, is unbelievably fast, looks pretty sexy and the games on it are mind blowing. Battlefield 4 is just next level! There's a reason it has smashed the competition.
If I was you I'd bite the bullet and go cutting edge. A gaming PC is also an option but so much can go wrong with them. I've heard horror stories of people frying 10k decks because they didn't install the water coolant systems properly Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy your gaming.

looks like a good deal. i have just upgraded from a ps3 to ps4. 500GB with COD fro JLewis £229, with 2 year warranty.
i do not need the ps4 pro, as i do not have a 4k tv, nor any plans to change. if i need more hd space, i can upgrade in time myself ( had a failed hd with ps3)
The next firmware release (4.5) is currently in Beta test and offers a 'boost mode' whereby the higher clock speeds of the Pro are employed to give older, un-enhanced PS4 games extra speed.i do not need the ps4 pro, as i do not have a 4k tv, nor any plans to change. if i need more hd space, i can upgrade in time myself ( had a failed hd with ps3)
By all accounts, gives most older titles a nice framerate improvement and only causes issues with a few games.
Also, it supports the use of external USB3 HDDs for extra capacity when installing games (PS4 and PS4 Pro).

Someone please do a pro / cons again as I am still wondering what one to buy.
They are both shiny but there must be more than that?
Wait for Xbox Scorpio - even if you end up going for an PS4 Pro or Nintendo Switch the prices will probably drop. They are both shiny but there must be more than that?

Not sure if this should be a separate thread, but I'm going to the Nurburgring later in the year for the first time.
What's the most realistic and most cost-effective way of practising it with one of the driving games?
I can buy a PS4 or PS3 on Amazon, and buy GT5 or GT6 (any advantages of GT5?), or is there a PC application that will run on the laptop (i5, 12GB, 256Gb SSD).
Any better ideas?
Thank in advance.

I'm a big advocate of learning tracks on computers before driving them, but the Nurburgring is an exception - it has over 70 "main" corners on it, unless you plan to spend dozens of hours playing the game, you're not even going to learn a small part of it.What's the most realistic and most cost-effective way of practising it with one of the driving games?

I certainly wouldn't drop £££ to do it, you'd get almost as much by watching lap videos on Youtube.

Assetto Corsa or Project Cars are usually cheap (£20-ish) on Steam and you can use keyboard or controller just to drive through and get a feel for the course. The Ring is base content in both games. Ah just noticed you're on a laptop so your gfx might not be up to it, AC is less gfx intensive but check against min specsWhat's the most realistic and most cost-effective way of practising it with one of the driving games?
