Will also make the game potentially bloody difficult! Definitely sounds interesting though.

I will revert back to F3 at some point as I've got a couple of the DLCs still to complete. I do miss the free roaming aspect, and I'm starting to bore of MW2 now.

New Vegas looks like it will have a new "hardcore" setting where ammo has weight, stimpacks heal you gradually rather than instantly, limbs can only be fixed by a doctor, and you have to maintain your character with food and water. Should fix the slight silliness of being able to carry 6000 rounds of ammo and heal yourself mid-fight and bring a new dimension to things.
Does sound alot more challenging but more trips to sell things doh! May try more of a the Road survival technique.

The goty is also on steam; all dlc included and no hassle installing or patching - the only thing to do is enable the dlc in the launcher.

I'm also properly looking forward to new Vegas (pre-ordered on steam). Played 3 for 75 hours just on the 2nd playthrough. Love it.

That's why it's called "hardcore mode". hehe

You'll be able to turn it off. Although I read that once you disable it you cannot re-enable it, unlike with the rest of the difficulty levels that you can adjust as you wish throughout the game.

The first 2 fallout's you could carry all the guns but had ammo limited. I guess this is a much better compromise. I'll probably do it hardcore as although difficult at first, I found Fallout 3 easy once you start collecting guns and ammo left right and centre.

I don't remember that, i thought all the guns had a weight limit in 1 & 2?

I might go back and do a few things I missed, I never did kill all the Super Mutant Behemoths. I think I have done pretty much every mission though so it's just clearing out buildings really. I could go back to point lookout and do some mini quests I missed but it is buggy as hell on the PS3.

btw: If you like Fallout 3 try Mass Effect 2, just completed it on PC and it is brilliant.

I've been playing some of the user-created / third party side quests for the PC version that are available on the Fallout3 Nexus ( http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/cat.php?id=77).

Some of them are surprisingly good and are properly voiced. And some use text-to-speech for the voices but still aren't bad.

Definitely worth a go if you have any interest in still playing and can't wait for New Vegas (which must be due out soon, surely?)

Cheap on Steam now ... http://store.steampowered.com/app/22300/

Question - how much bigger is the GOTY edition (with 5 DLCs) compared with the stock game? Do you need to complete the main quest first before you can get to the DLC content/benefits or do you get the benefits as soon as you start the game?

So... since we are all salivating over the announcement of Fo4 and starting to pollute the Fo4 thread with talk of how we are replaying Fo3....

Fine, we'll talk on here...

Dave, of you have made it across, the fast travel is a good way to make caps
Scavenge as much as you can carry, then fast travel somewhere with a trader, sell everything, and repeat. Don't hesitate to steal a few things too, that game is all about balance, you won't become evil straight away.

I heard it doesn't work very well if at all on Win7. Also, I bought most of the DLC for it at the time, and I don't think I can get it again now as I don't have a Microsoft account. Other than that, I'd love to give it a go again.

Works fine under Win7 64-bit. I just bought the Steam GotY edition, despite owning it all + DLCs already. For the sake of £8 (during a sale) I couldn't be arsed to mess around (I had the original game on DVD but all the DLCs were on the now defunct Windows Live).

One of the DLCs - Broken Steel -should be considered essential as it allows you to continue the game when you complete the main quest for the first time. This also adds a fair bit of gameplay. The others vary, but generally add a few hours of gameplay at least, some much more (The Pitt for example). The DLC appears as missions in the game so you can generally start them when you like.

Has anyone tried the Tale of Two Wastelands? - http://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/faq#whatist...

Runs Fallout 3 in the updated New Vegas engine and combines the two so you can travel from the Capital Wasteland to the Mojave and back.

Nice little revisit of Point Lookout by Kotaku, arguing that it is the best DLC of Fo3. I agree. Broken Steel completes the main story, but it isn't especially interesting. Not bad, mind. And The Pitt is no great shakes really. Operation Anchorage is meh. Strangely, the review doesn't even mention Mothership Zeta which wasn't totally awful although I found intensely tedious and so far outside the Fo3 tenet that I wonder why they went there.

Massive piles of lightly scented cash is why they went there I suspect.
