I'm loving what I've played before, hasn't strayed far from the series' roots which is good for me.

I do seem to be a go-to guy at the moment though, have had three seperate people request chats with me for help and advice (half the time I've not done the particular quest in question) but I don't think GI Jnr was too pleased with my recommendations last night.

Password Help Needed !!

When you hack the terminals, you need to pic which one of the hex dump is the actual password. I have so far been going on luck alone, but surely there must be a method or way to work it out ?

What am I missing ?

Thanks.

Well first off, pick a word, it will then come up with something like 1/5 correct, so if you picked WOODS then one of those letters is correct and in the right place, so if you then pick CHIPS and it says that 4/5 is correct then you know that the S from WOODS was right, and you've got another 3 letters correct. Looking through the remaining list of words you can see that only one other word has 4 letters in common with CHIPS and that is SHIPS, so SHIPS is the right word.

Another way to help out is to look for pairs of brackets facing each other on the same line, selecting the first of these brackets and inputting that as the password will either top up your chances to the full 4 or get rid of one dud word, so:

<^~£(">%$!" on one line will work if you select the < as it has a > facing it later in the line.

()!"$("!( selecting the ( will work as it has a ) facing it on the same line, as will any curly or square brackets {} or []. You'll know when you have a set of brackets as when you highlight the opening one it will highlight the section of code included in the brackets and you're safe to input this.

I have just discovered what noise my brain makes when it fizzles out and gives up hehe

I think I get it, once in practice, I am sure it will make even more sense.

Thank you smile

Whoa. I think I need to read that a few times, slowly.

I have completely failed to hack anything yet. frown

hehe Reminds me of that Monty Python sketch where they're hunting mosquitos with rocket launchers.

Edit: Another tip for hacking is if you get down to one attempt left, press B (or circle for you PSers) to exit the terminal, then enter it again and have another go, you'll have to start from scratch again, but you'll have your 4 attempts left.

I've picked up some lovely Assault armour but it won't let me wear it, says I need training. Where do you get that? At an Armoury? Or is it a points needed thing? It's a pain in the ass lugging it about when I can't wear it.

Also do terminals that get locked due to a failed password get reset after awhile?

Quite involving this game, I was only going to go on it for an hour tonight....4 hours later!!!

Picked this up last night and loving it so far.

Also just read this guide on hacking on gamespot which explains it pretty well http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/fallout3/show_m...

It's at the Citadel (Pentagon) afaik you only go there as part of the story, you cant waltz in of your own free will, but its worth getting. That stuff weighs a bloody ton to carry about as well, you're best off just ditching it as they offer you armour when they train you (learned this the heavy way).

Nooooooooo - Dog Meat is dead. You may have been useless and disappeared to not return for an hour and then spontaneously died whilst waiting in safe location, but you were my virtual pet.

I've found Dogmeat really useful, he acts as an early warning device for any gits trying to sneak up behind you and can draw attention away from your character allowing you to get in some good critical hits.

Can you lot please stop talking about this game, i'm still playing Oblivion and i've promised myself I won't get immersed in another similiar game until I've finished or at least most of it.
