Why oh why did I install this again recently?

After a year or so away (and telling myself never to go back) I did the unimaginable, downloaded the client and installed it on my new PC!

Its taking over my life again, aarrgghh!

At least my fiancee seems 'quite' understanding! However, Professor Layton has now been completed so she isn't so easily distracted anymore! At least we have the Friends complete 10 series DVD to fall back on!! But, i'm quickly running out of options.

Help ...... me!

P.S My in-game name is WhiteFusion if anyone else on here plays this!

Edited to add: and the new graphics look so nice! Damn damn damn!

I have just downloaded the free 21 day subscription from Steam. What's the best way to get started, as it looks complex to me.

It's €20 per month though, I think that's quite a lot for a game, or is that the going rate? (Guild Wars is good, and it's free, once the game has been purchased - €20 every month is hard to swallow..)

To get started, follow the tutorial. It gives you everything you need to get going plus you get some free kit.

I put off installing this for about 3 years, but did so 2 months ago. Oops!

"looks complex" doesn't even begin to describe it! smile

So, is it worth me investing some time to this game, as I usually play the Total War strategy games, and Sins of a Solar Empire?

(I bought X3 Terran Conflict too, but I wish I had more time to invest in these games!)

It is truly digital crack. It WILL devour every free moment you make available to it, and still leave you wishing you had more time to play it.

I had to cancel my sub a few years ago - it was just too all-consuming and I couldn't make enough time to play it to make it worthwhile once I started work again.

Just signed myself up for another 14 day trial.... Im wondering where i will get to this time :

1st time I tried it :
Bah, this learning curve is ridiculous woohoo after a week I have a cruiser... and I got blown up and im back to square one, forget it

2nd time :
Largely the same but made it to a battlecruiser this time; lost 3/4 cruisers in a 'oh, thats why resistances are important' learning session when starting level 2 missions

3rd time :
So far : oh... there are skills to improve your standing gain, you dont actually need to do the same mission 900000 zillion times.

Love that graph. hehe

Here's a challenge. Trade your way to your first cruiser. Not allowed to do missions. Then tank up the cruiser and do your first missions. biggrin FZZZZT *boom* FZZZZT *boom*

The thing is, that feeling doesn't stop for a long time. Everytime you get a new skill a new bunch of problems and further skills are available. Even after playing this for a year there are still things I have absolutely no clue about, which is part of what makes it such a good game.

Its not that much after the first month. I think it goes down to 14 euros a month after, but I pay by 3-month installment which makes it less than that per month. Just double check the Eve webby, would do for you but I need the loo and its home time from work!

I played this for AGES but I think I made bad mistakes in designing my character... and now have a combat-only character who is pretty good with drones but rubbish at everything else.

I can fly a few battlecruisers like the Myrmidon, but they suck in PVP. I can fly interceptors but they're not as good as I hoped.

I didn't realise the game was about killing people in microseconds with massive barrages of weaponry before they realise you are there. Drones suck at that. Also, I have a laptop with a touchpad and it's pretty much impossible to react quick enough with a touchpad!

I enjoyed the social side though - took on recruitment for a small (20 ish players) corp called Paxton Industries and recruited so many people we eventually became an Alliance and got given some soverign 0.0 space by CVA. Got to be a bit of a chore at the end though.

Thing is, my character was pure PvP/combat... and I couldnt survive long enough to be useful.

Also to get in a fight you need to log in for hours at a time.

I still love it, but it's a hard game to be excited by. It's not like you can just log in and enjoy it.

It's crazily addictive, I played for 2 years then had to stop so I'd actually get some work done, then was out of work for 6 months (and practically didn't eat or sleep for the same period of time) and reinstalled it, then I stopped again and I have just reinstalled it a 3rd time and, oh look, my free time as vanished...

Far more addictive than any of the others, possibly because of the way the economy works and things you can really feel like you're achieving something.
