That was the only problem with the old game, the handling sucked.
You're being far too kind. smile

I liked TDU for the potential it showed, but it repeatedly let itself down(at least on the PC version) with the issues I mentioned above.

I am really hoping that the handling is realistic too, and not dumbed down to make it more 'accessible'.

Anyone remember the original 'World Racing', I used to really enjoy the Alps track, scenery like that would be great. A 4x4 specific section like on the test track would be fun as well.

Actually, Just Cause 2 would make great scenery for a driving sim.

Did anyone else 'max out' the tuning on the Saleen S7? That car was quite fast. wink

I reckon I'll pick this up for the PS3 when it comes out so I can use my G25. My PC still sweats about running the original and the G25 support (Despite that being one of the main selling points of the game) was poor on it with every car having massively different steering speeds so every time you changed car you'd be setting up the damn wheel again.

'Bug' my left ventricle... TDU performance editor at work.
1000BHP Skylines are common on TDU these days.
Saleen has silly acceleration but handles like an ice skate.
CC8S fastest top end but totally unuseable due to running out of straight roads very fast.
McLaren F1 GT for the win, 278MPH past dillingham airfield with a three mile run up with no mods just the built in game tuning.

There are more than a few of us still cruising Oahu every other night on the PC. The game was cracked to add mods ages ago and some of the add on cars are far superior to the original game spec machines. (IF your on a PC that is) I find the G25 perfectly adequate for all the cars and the bikes too ( although bike physics in TDU suck big style)
If ever any of you guys on the PC get back on to TDU give us a shout somehow.
There is even a piston heads clubhouse...
Here are a couple of the mods I have installed. hopefully they will implement some of them in TDU2.

Sorry for the temporary hijack but you have a few months yet... dust off the old one and burn some virtual rubber...

The Cossie replaces the lotus esprit V8 and requires TDUPE to reconfigure the drivetrain, engine location, a little tweak with the ride height but is awesome to drive and there is a sound mod too, makes most of the TDU standard sounds really sound bad.
I have three cossies, all done over 1K miles, the yellow one is nearer 2K.
Love it.

might have to dig out my copy and try it on my rent computer

Could you give us a few links to must have mods to get these extra cars and use online?

There is a megapack which adds fifty new vehicles available by download from atari for about a tenner.
I think its worth it for the variety it adds.
Some of my favourite cars came from the megapack.
TVR440R class C 237mph but very twitchy if given too much right foot.
Holden Efigy class D concept ~ TANK
McLaren F1 GT ~ supercar ~ awesome game car, shame there were only two real ones.
4 Ruf's (porsche)
2 extra lambo's
5 Lexus's (Lexi?) and a new car dealers.
The list is Long...so won't post it all here.
Set up the online system using gamespy.

TDU central home page
This is the home of all good TDU things. There are tutorials for installing all the mods but you will have to look for them.

TDU released models page
This is the list of completed models which can be used to replace in game cars. Tool 831 does the most (and some of the best) mods, the cossie is one of his.

Ford Escort Cosworth
Aston Martin N400
Bugati Veyron
Shelby Mustang GT500KR
Ariel Atom
Range Rover Vogue (looks like a sport to me though)
Nissan Skylines... loads of different ones
Evo's.. 7,8,9,10 with and without body kits
MX5's
Supra... nice mod that

Before installing any mods or changing any files make a backup of both your savegame folder in 'my documents' and the game folder in C:\program files\atari. keep them on a memory key (8Gb+} or on a second hard drive if you have one. (or anywhere away from the original locations.)

Most important is DJeys magic map. I will find a link in a sec and edit it in. This is what allows you to change the game files and not get kicked offline or having the game crash because the files are the wrong size.
There is a patch to make the original up to ver 1.66 and a community patch to take it to 1.67. This is optional but allows you to wear normal clothes on a bike and leathers in a car (but no helmets in cars yet)

Most of the mods come with a read me file, do as it says. they are written by fellow gamers and not too hard to follow.

Taking TDU to extremes is the winter mod (snow covered Hawaii) and the weather mod (day night cycle and fog) awesome at first but the edge soon wears off when you cant see anything past the end of the bonnet as your lights dont actually do anything.

I would recommend doing the installs in the following order.
1 game main program.
2 Patch 1.66 to allow online matching of game levels.
3 megapack if your going to buy it.
4 DJeys magic map.
5 community patch 1.67 (optional but useful if you like custom painting the cars)
6 car mods/ sound mods/ wheel rims etc.
7 TDUPE only if your not happy with the configuration of the mods FWD/4WD/RWD (adding extra speed is a bad thing in game online)

There are loads of other toys to play with out there on TDUC, have fun but always keep that backup separate in case it all goes wrong. I used it a few times where i deleted files and forgot to put the originals back. ended up with a chevy corvette with no wheels at one point.

Phew... war and peace over.

I tried the xbox version at work when we had xbox's in stock, even on an elite using HD it couldn't match my PC for graphics, sound or driving fun (G25 for the win)
Have you ever thought of trying it on that laptop? the games only about a fiver now with the new one coming out soon... (nudge nudge)

As a complete and very blatant plug I am currently building some games spec PC's at work out of surplus stock. I was building them for the guys I work with but would happily 'do a deal' for PH'ers. Spec will be 'three years' or less.
Nvidia 8800GTS graphics, dual or quad core chips and plenty of memory, with genuine XP PRO fully installed and tested. Special bonus bits thrown in for PH'ers like game spec logitech mice and keyboards. Hell, I can do the odd G25 wheel for a decent price too. OOps... nearly started quoting prices..nono

Never pre-ordered from play, do they usually send it out early like GAME or are they like Amazon?. Just seen you can buy yachts on the game, cool.
