Test Drive Unlimited 2
Discussion
TDU 1 was a really nice game, ruined by details.
Music when installing, STUPIDLY loud.
Once installed, if you un-installed it to alter the install directory or anything similar, it'd delete root C contents (never patched)
Would put entries in registry that wouldn't go away with an un-install
Needed lots of un-documented router tweaks to get the internet bit working
Maybe my problem was running the online demo and then when it ended, I needed to re-install, but fragments from the demo were left and that made my release version go wrong.
If it can come through Steam then it will be REALLY nice because it'll just work (Steam stuff seems to just do what it's meant to, yay!)
Handling was good imo, and just right for the rough roads. Simulation took it to great levels and felt really nice on smoother roads, but very poor on bumpy ones.
Sense of speed, most sounds, etc were all really nice.
Just a shame plod didn't pull speeding traffic for example, or do you for jumping red lights etc.
Frustrations were silly cost balancing of cars. Ie, Z06 was cheap but too effective, so they made it's gears about half as long as they should have been, making it totally useless for anything. Just make it cost more ffs!
The thing that saw me stop playing it was boredom I suppose. I'd done the single player about 3x to 2/3rds of the way through (once in demo, once on first install, then go corrupted, started again and really got bored doing the same stuff for the *3rd* time!)
I would really like to try a demo first, ideally through Steam where it will hopefully all install and work without issue!
I guess it'll be great but if the same kinda problems exist 2nd time around I'll not buy, may as well just keep playing the first one now and again

I just don't see the point in some of these features. It's a car racing game not a barbie...
I guess you don't have to bother though,
I really enjoyed the first one, completed it and played online for a while but was frustrated by the appaling matchmaking. Once you got a race it was fun but even at it's peak that seemed harder than it needed to be.
Handling was fun without being too hardcore. Some cars were just impossible to drive though!

DLC not just car packs... well it wasn't even car packs before, it was ONE mega pack for PC, and it was hard to install and get working too. And you had to pay for it
As for nightclubs and yachts, hmmmm... starting to sound a bit like GTA...
I suppose as long as you can totally avoid those elements and not suffer because of it, but then why include them? I just hope they don't try turning this into a GTA of some sort. It just doesn't need it. This whole F&F gangster wide-boy thing really is ruining some driving games these days
I have a feeling this is going to be much like the last game. Great concept, but trying to do too much and not polishing it off again... fingers crossed
(looking forward to it more than GT5 still, fast cars on roads doing something you would never do in real life is more interesting than lapping circuits... which you can do IRL)

I'm massively sceptical that the issues that plagued the PC version of the first game will be properly addressed.
Hoping to sign up for the public beta.
I was in the public beta of the first game, and all the issues that made the PC version annoying were present in that. If they are present in the TDU2 beta then you can pretty much guarantee the final version will be just as buggy.

The first wave of the TDU beta had less bugs than the second one. One of the bugs introduced in the second wave (game constantly freezing if using force feedback) made it into the final release despite being reported by pretty much everybody in the beta.Hoping to sign up for the public beta.

Let's hope they do it right this time.

I assume it's not GTA gangster style nightclubbing. More, make a club and earn money from it As for nightclubs and yachts, hmmmm... starting to sound a bit like GTA...

G25+Bike=total confusion
For a while it was awkward but now I have got used to it Its actually quite easy.
So how many of you have dusted off the old version now?
I know there were issues with the original beta/alpha clashing, totally farcical deletion of C:\ root files on uninstall, servers not allowing you to 'buddy up' and dumping you with a load of randoms, but my pet hate was the way the car reset when you went past 90 degrees in any direction. Some bizarre fault makes you roll down hill sideways, first on the right then the left, rinse and repeat with no control until you get back to a horizontal surface (nearly). I really hope thay have resolved that one in TDU2.
Has anyone here made it to Ace status on the PC?
