Been reading about a game called minecraft which one man has been making on his own. It is currently in the Alpha stage but is nearing beta and it is excellent! The graphics are crap (but suit the game so well) but the possibilities and gameplay is awesome.

To find out what it is all about the watch this guy - Here

Just watching his video's cost me a morning and I lost the whole afternoon playing it too!

It is probably not everyone's idea of a good game but if you like the look of it then go to http://minecraft.net for more info!

Best £8 I have spent on a game in a very long time!

A friend at uni was obsessed with this.

IMO, its not a proper game, as there's no objective.

I also don't like garys mod either, which is a similar game where you just build stuff.

I don't have the patience to bother with things like this, I'd rather be shooting something, biggrin, or racing something.

hehe You are spot on mate. The thing is I love Garry's Mod as well. It is completely pointless in terms of what the objectives of the game but that is why I like it! It's very well made for what it is trying to achieve.

Do i prefer it to a good FPS. Probably not!

Can't complain for £8, and the fact one guy did it on his own is very impressive.

Thanks for the recommendation. Having wasted 90 minutes watching the videos on Youtube, I bought the game this morning before I left for work.

That's something to look forward to tonight.

I am still learning new things to do wait until you start digging and find Red Ore - You can make switches that open doors and activate traps. Such a good game!

I seem to go through phases of losing hours to dwarf fortress.

I have yet to actually work out what the hell I'm doing most of the time.

I can see myself losing a lot of time to this, just dug an amazing mine that was full of coal etc. Unfortunately one of my tunnels going upwards ended up going into the ocean and flooding it >.<.

Needs a multiplayer element - the biggest boon with Gary's Mod is that you and a mate can work together to build rediculous things.

Did anyone else play Ultima Underworld? Mine looks an awful lot like a cross between that and Ant Attack, but with no plot as such. I must admit though, it is great watching the videos of that guy mining (my social life is packed, can't you tell?)

Watched about an hour of his vids yesterday, and I'm totally hooked.
Not sure whether I'll be dissappointed getting the game myself, as I'd want my world to be as good as ^^^ his, but I'm sorely tempted by this.
Honestly it is worth it. I have restarted about 20 times to get an decent level and I think mine is better than his! Hills, Trees and animal everywhere and I am just about to start mining properly so I shall report back in terms of Ores! I watch Video 1 to 19 in one day hehe Wow... that's quite sad.

Haha - I'm not far off in terms of hours watched!

Can you get some video footage of your mine? biggrin
Yep! I don't know if I should do a walkthrough like that guy (who does it better than I ever could) or just some clips of my mines.

Mining leaves you with a lot of leftover stone, so I decided to build a castle on top of a mountain I had hollowed out.

Added a new tower on to the castle, hit the upper build limit while building it though frown. Steps to the top are not finished since I fell off them and cant be arsed going back up to fix it.

that small stone building in the foreground is the entrance to an underground canal which doesnt seem to do much other than chew up boats.

Excellent! Getting this tonight. Can't wait to get stuck in.
It's like crack...only more addictive. I spent about 6 hours on it last night with no breaks, even forgot to eat.

think i should probably take a break for a few days.
